Has anyone had breast implants removed and not replaced?

How did it go? Are you happy with your old boobs back? I'm planning on doing this and would be very grateful for any replies.

Sorry OP but in all likelihood you wouldn’t get your old boobs back - you’d get saggy, deflated sacks of skin from where the implants stretched them out.

getoffmychest · 08/06/2020 21:31

Well aren't you a little ray of sunshine Hmm.

Obviously you are not in a position to answer but you are bloody rude!

I thought I would have to do this but haven’t as yet though mine are now 25yrs old. I’m pretty sure that after all that time I would be left with saggy little flaps so am going to leave them where they are for as long as I can. If you’re fairly young and didn’t go too large then there’s a good chance they’d be ok.

It’s not rude, it’s true 🤷🏼‍♀️

When implants are removed they either need replacing (with smaller implants if preferred) or skin needs removing, creating a reduction.

The skin will have been stretched over the implant, and if the implant is removed the skin doesn’t ping back to how it was, it stays stretched. This can cause unsightly breasts as the skin is puckered and baggy, and lacks consistency as the tissue is lacking.

A breast surgeon will discuss your options with you but just removing the implants is unlikely to give you a satisfactory outcome.

Sameold2020 · 08/06/2020 22:08

I didn't think that was a rude response either. Just factual. You seem quite sensitive about this.

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 09/06/2020 11:47

Can I ask why you want them removed out of interest? My friend believed hers were making her ill so she had them taken out. She says her natural breasts are a little droopy now but probably not enough for anyone else to notice. She said having them removed is the best decision she ever made.

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 09/06/2020 11:52

Also I forgot to add she went from a 36C back to a 36A

Have a look at the realself website as there are many women sharing their experiences of breast implant removal and lots of photographs.

Dillydallyingthrough · 10/06/2020 10:23

The first poster wasn't rude, but your response certainly was! They were truthful, and you seem quite sensitive about it.

Is there a particular reason you would like them removed? My Dsis had hers removed and didnt want any them to be replaced, but the skin that was left behind was baggy and puckered so she had some of the tissue cut away and then smaller implants. She had lots of issues and had to have a couple more surgeries to correct some of the issues. But they have healed now, she ideally would like them removed completely but doesn't feel as if that is an option now.

This podcast explains the correct process for removal and how one woman experienced it.
It's not just a case of removing the implant, the capsule that your body forms around them has to be removed too to prevent illness later as tumours can form on them (not trying to scare anyone).
They're meant to be changed every 10 years to reduce these risks.

One of my best friends had hers removed. They looked saggy at first but after a few months they filled out again and look fine (I didn't think she needed hers done in the first place). She is v pleased she had her removed (did it for health reasons).

dooble · 10/06/2020 11:25

@Cobourg is right so don't understand why she has been branded rude.

More people need to be aware of this & the fact that ideally they should be replaced every 10 yrs

Catlover78 · 01/01/2022 21:51

It’s not true that they need to be replaced every 10 years - I’ve had mine since 2005 and they’re fine and still soft. As long as you have regular ultrasounds. to check they’re still intact it’s all good. A friend also had hers removed and not replaced. They look absolutely fine- no sagging. I think it’s down to your individual physiology. Good luck with your decision.

MichaelAndEagle · 01/01/2022 21:58

I had mine removed and not replaced and they are FINE.
Its really not like people are making out.
Also recommend going on real self website where you can see 100s of before and after pics.
Best thing I ever did.

Moretodo · 01/01/2022 22:03

I guess if you didn't go too big, the skin has a fair bit of elasticity before it stretches enough to get stretch marks and not return to shape.

Returning to pre implant state seems to be increasingly popular.

user1471462428 · 02/01/2022 09:27

I currently do some work in this area (agency nursing) some women who have them removed do get stretched flaps of skin and some go back to their natural state. It does depend on the size of the implants, how old you are, how long they were in and how elastic your skin is.
