Measuring curtains....I've measured the window, what next?

I've managed to get the ripe old age of 47 and not really ever needed to measure a window for new curtains. My Mum has made all of our curtains, which has been wonderful, I've bought the material etc and she's made them, which has meant she's also measured them. However, she's curtained out and has suggested that I buy some...from a shop!
I've got a window that measures height 102 cm and length 178 cm. What size curtains should I buy? I want pencil pleats too. Also, I don't want long curtains, they need to land just beyone the window sill.

So the 'drop' should measure the whole way from where you want the top of the curtain to be (ie where your rail will be, and allowing for the part of the curtain that will be above where your hooks fit into the curtain tape), and the width you need is 1.5 x or 2 x half the width of the whole space (so you can have two nicely gathered curtains). You can get away with less width.

But I recommend you also read a measuring guide on a curtain website!

You want your curtain pole or track to be 10-15cm atleast above the window opening and to extend atleast 15-20 each side of the window opening.

As poster said above your drop will be from pole/track to where you want them to finish. I’d recommend not going to thin on the width, especially if you’ll be closing them. If you don’t have a radiator or anything below the window sill do consider floor length.

Feel free to send a message with pics and I can tailor the advice.
