Anyone else’s mood and motivation massively affected by the Weather?!

I honestly feel I’ve only got through lockdown due to the amazing weather we’ve had. To be able to be outside in the garden or in a park, reading, exercising, or just feeling the warmth of sun on me has been amazing. However, I’ve realised the downside to that is that the gloomy weather we’re now having is really putting a downer on my mood and energy levels.

We had a bit of sun this morning so sat outside to eat brunch and was feeling great and gearing up to do some yoga. Then it went dark and is now pouring down, I’ve lost all motivation for everything, feel really down and just want to nap!

Am I the only one who’s moods are so amplified by the weather at the moment? Hmm

Mine are too, but in the reverse!

I do like the sun, but not the heat. I was so pleased when it got all cold again! I've loved the rain and the stormy skies. I love the smell of it. I love that everywhere isn't so full of people.

Admittedly I wouldn't want torrential rain everyday. Dry and sunny, but chilly is my ideal.

I'm always like that though. I find the summer the most depressing of all the seasons!

It’s been great weather wise. At last i started working from home so I’ve been able to enjoy the sun. I start at 6am then finish before 2 then straight into the sun.

Now its cooler and wet im thankful as i can clean the house, sort washing out etc!

But i go out for a walk or run most days so weather doesn’t affect my mood. If i let that happen id not go outside for months as I live in a very wet part of the UK!

Yes but I am also the opposite. I hate the heat, it flares my RA, I get heat eashes and light migraines. My asthma has also been awful. Have been so much happier since it has cooled back down

HotWatBot · 07/06/2020 15:21

This is totally me OP. Oh no.

I do but I also suffer from barometric pressure headaches, so if weather is warm consistently then we have a thunderstorm (as with this week in my area) I’m pretty much knocked on my arse, but after the first few days if it stays consistently cool I’m okay. The weather has been so up and down I’m constantly feeling drained!

Youngatheart00 · 07/06/2020 16:28

@NaviSprite that’s interesting about the up and down. Maybe it’s the weather shifts more than the grey skies. I will admit to feeling quite exhilarated during / after a thunderstorm yesterday and also noticing how fresh everything smelled this morning. I just seem to be hyper tuned in to the weather at the moment and it’s very strange!!

Yes 100 percent, I'm not even a sun worshipper but the weather affects my moods so much, I've been really struggling last few days compared to when it was sunny then I was fine!

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/06/2020 16:37

Other way round for me, while I've enjoyed the long hours of daylight and the evening sunshine for walking it has been too hot for me in the last couple of weeks and I've been worried about heatwaves and droughts, this cooler weather has come as a relief.

I usually hate the heat but at the moment if it’s anything other than a sunny, warm day I just feel miserable. We are lucky enough to have a nice garden so I think it’s the promise of being able to sit out, even for half an hour, that cheers me up. I dread to think how I’d be if lockdown had been in winter (or even if we’d had typical spring weather instead of a long run of great weather).

BogRollBOGOF · 07/06/2020 18:04

Massively. I'm always struggled with grey, lurky days that hang around and do nothing. For that reason I loathe winter and really struggled last winter all the way from September to March. We had major floods by bonfire night, and still it kept raining for 4 more months. I was already fed up and struggling before lockdown as it had been so long since there were nice things to do.

I'm my best on bright, sunny days, not too hot. Low humidity.
