My mood drops so rapidly

I can be feeling fine, or even really happy and positive, and then something relatively minor can happen, which affects me massively and my mood plummets at the flick of a switch. I then feel really low and miserable, cry, feel worthless, what’s the point, etc. I’m normally better the next day.

Does anyone else have this? I’ve only really noticed it so intensely in the last maybe year or so.

I’ve always struggled with my mood and anxiety, and have been on and off antidepressants for around 18 years. These mood drops have only been a more recent thing though.

I’m like this too, OP. I’ve always been like it since I was a teenager except when pregnant or breastfeeding (last 8.5 years) so I think it must be hormonal too. Thanks for the cbt exercises and also the mention of PMDD. Gosh hormones can be horrible! My mum said it was a relief to go through the menopause as she is finally on a even keel after years of being up and down!

DD is like this and has had a load of tests done. She is deficient in vitamin D and some minerals and her body produces too much adrenaline. It would be worth talking to your GP.

That’s interesting chocolate how did they work the adrenaline out, was it a normal blood test?

Dancer12345 · 10/06/2020 13:24

I’ve never heard of that before, interesting. Will look into it.

LaneBoy She's had blood tests, urine tests, hair follicle tests, spit tests. To be honest I've lost track of which of those identified the adrenaline problem! She was lucky enough to have a psychiatrist who is very interested in the physical health causes of mental health issues.
