Dont use McDonalds support local small businesses

Are you seeing this a lot too? It makes no sense to me. IME small businesses can be terrible employers with questionable hygiene practices and corners cut to save the owners money.

McDonalds on the other hand is a very fair employer, pays well above minimum wage for the kinds of jobs that would attract exactly minimum wage elsewhere and is absolutely hot on hygiene.

These posters talk about supporting small businesses because that "pays for a little girl's dance lessons" etc, do employees of bigger firms not buy dance lessons?

Obviously people should spend their money as they see fit but the big companies are important to the local economy too and (usually) became big companies by being very good at what they do.

My 17 year old grandson works for mcD
He has a very fair employer and has ( surprisingly ) been paid over furlough, neither of us expectEd that.
He does work extremely hard for his money.the other night when finishing his shift had to pull out the bibs and clean the fat behind them
He often gets burnt
I do feel that his hourly rate should be more than £4-50 per hour and yes it is a franchise.
I think a 16 year old should get a fiver an hour at least and a 17 year old £6
Which is ridiculous considering they do the same job.
On his very first day my gs was cooking

McDonald’s are franchises so in theory are still a “local business”. Don’t see why people cannot support both really.

Macdonalds UK is transparent about where they get their meat from, business ethics, calories and allergens and above all are hygienic. Comparable local burger joints often aren’t. Hell even Subway / Nandos etc aren’t as good as McDonalds.

The chains are usually very successful for a reason. It's like with Amazon, people slag them off but they were the first, or one of the first, to do next day delivery, no postage costs if you pay for prime etc. Every big business was once a small business who played the game and won.

I don’t think my gs is on a fixed contract
There’s a company website where he can put in for extra shifts
This week he has 4 shifts All of about 6 hours
He is allowed a break and can eat anything off the menu, a large meal or a smaller ,Earl with a desert Ie a chicken legend with a mc flurry

Plenty of hours, but for the work he / they do I really do think a starting wage of £5 ph isn’t too much to ask
He’s been there 8 months and in that time he’s bought himself a £400 computer, £200 phone, £70 kindle and a few branded tops/ hoody
He pays out for phone use, Spotify, x box which come to £40 a month
None of this would’ve been possible without his job as his parents just couldn’t afford to do that as dad is a student and there’s another two boys.

So I feel grateful that he’s got a chance to improve his life.

In general, I find it best to just ignore sanctimonious twats who badger others on social media.

My Big Mac today was glorious.

I was impressed at the queuing system at Mcdonalds earlier, it is on the main road but they had managed to set up three lanes in the car park and had people outside with signs telling them to drive buy when nobody else could get in so there was not a single car backing up onto the main road.

I had a fillet of fish and it was lush, I miss the Mexican wrap which you get for £1.99 on a Friday which is actually pretty healthy and when I was dieting I would fit my fillet of fish and medium chips for 700 calories into my plan for dinner occasionally.

I got a posh gastro burger on a brioche bun with hand cut chips from a locally owned take away over lockdown and it was rubbish and overpriced so local is not always better.

My special needs adult son works for McDonald’s. They were the only place willing to take a chance on him after nearly 2 years unemployed after finishing college. He has now worked for them pretty much full time for several years. He is the ideal employee as he thrives on repetitive tasks.
Someone he works with had only just started when we went on lockdown. They had done 4 shifts. They have been being paid on furlong

I will be one of the first back to order a burger when they reopen around my way. In fact if they limit order to £25 I might just order the full £25 worth and pig myself silly.

Proud I've heard lots of similar stories on here of McDonald's being a really good employer of young people with SEND. I don't think they get anything like enough credit for their employment practices.
