I can only have two of these three things. Help me choose?

DH and I have just over £300 in JL gift vouchers left over from our wedding. I also have £240 “treat money” from this year’s bonus with which to get something “for myself”. So here are my options-

Thing 1 - £229
We recently moved into a fairly small flat which has largely been furnished with hideous, chunky, black Ikea furniture - bought when DH was furnishing his bachelor flat (before I showed up). At the moment we are stuck with a dining table not dissimilar to this, with 4 matching chairs. We can’t fit all 4 chairs under the table at once and DH is using the table as his desk atm (new one due to arrive in a few weeks and it will go in our bedroom) so his office chair is in the sitting room and two of the chairs are currently in our bedroom.
One of the three things I have my eye on is this table and chairs set- it is pretty perfect for us in that it folds up nice and compactly and will look much nicer in the space than the awkward black one we have now. If I used the gift vouchers to get it we’d have roughly £80 left.

Thing 2 - £449-£675
I have wanted a Vitamix for so long. At least 7 years. I have watched the videos on YouTube more times than I’d like to admit. I have a Pinterest board full of delicious recipes I would make with one. Baby DS is also weaning at the moment and I would love to be able to make lots of lovely homemade things for him. I know there are other, cheaper blenders out there but I want one so badly!!
The Explorian is out of stock at JL atm so in order to get one of the more expensive better ones I would have to combine both gift vouchers and treat money. If I wanted the most fancy pants one I’d have to save up a bit more on top as well. DH is happy for me to get one with the gift vouchers and would probably use it too but to him any blender would do so he’s not fussed really.

Thing 3 - £240
I recently completed my first half marathon 5 months after having my first baby and have well and truly caught the running bug. I’ve been using my phone for tracking, listening to music etc but would love a proper fitness watch, and really like the look of the Garmin Vivoactive 4S. Of the three things, this is the only thing that would really be just for me is. The dining table, while being something only I really want, would be used by the whole family, the blender too but the fact that it’s a Vitamix is what makes it a treat for me.

My options are

A- get the table and the watch, spend the remaining vouchers on a shitty cheaper blender and continue to lust over a Vitamix for the rest of my days.

B- wait for the cheapest Vitamix to come back in stock, get that and the table or watch

C- combine vouchers and treat money for a more expensive Vitamix, make my peace with the ugly table, get a cheaper fitness watch for my birthday in a few months time.

What would Mumsnet do??

Totally missing the point, but my mum didn't realise there was an expiration date on JL vouchers. She hoarded them and lost hundreds of pounds ☹️

Atomsaway · 05/06/2020 17:30

Get the table and the watch. We used to have that table in our first maisonette. It was brilliant for space saving and decent quality.

SpillTheTeaa · 05/06/2020 17:30

That's very expensive for a blender. You have a table so seems a waste of money to me but as PP said could be influenced by the fact I don't like the table.
I wouldn't spend that much on a watch either Grin.
But if I were going to get anything probably the watch.

My mum had one of those tables. The chairs are hideously uncomfortable

XingMing · 05/06/2020 17:31

I've got a big Philips blender (after wearing three out in two years) and it's pretty robust, for £125. I thought that was enough, but it's so much better than any cheaper ones.

Chasingsquirrels · 05/06/2020 17:33

Do the Vitamix's sell 2nd hand? Might be worth considering.

Painting the table is a good idea, although doesn't change the size if it. But if you hate it and are getting rid if it anyway then painting it and seeing what it comes out like might save you some money. The dimensions aren't that dissimilar in use, would you have it folded up most of the time? With a 1yo I'd want a readily available and easily accessible table.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/06/2020 17:34

100% A

that black table hideous and will be a constant reminder that you should have chosen A

BellsaRinging · 05/06/2020 17:37

Table. You dont need the blender, but you do need a blender. Get a cheap one. If you use it then get the expensive one at Christmas. I'm a keen runner but honestly you dont need a watch. If you do want one look on Ebay-I found mine for £40 there and it was only a year old.

AngeloMysterioso · 05/06/2020 17:38

Just realised there is an Option D- get the table with my treat money, wait for the cheaper Vitamix to come back in stock and get that with the vouchers, get a cheaper watch as a birth present in a few months.

Those chairs look terrible, the backs don’t look supportive at all.

HappyDinosaur · 05/06/2020 17:39

Another one for option A, my little blender is amazing and didn't cost much at all.

Teaandscone · 05/06/2020 17:39

I would agree with a previous poster; the table looks practical but the straight-backed chairs very uncomfortable. I would look around for chairs with curvy backs.

wowfudge · 05/06/2020 17:40

A without a shadow of a doubt. That is one overpriced blender. If you are prepared to spend that much on a kitchen gadget why not buy a secondhand thermomix instead - at least that can actually cook things for you as well as blend them.

CremeEggThief · 05/06/2020 17:40

Definitely A.
My last blender (liquidiser) was under £30 and still working after 9 years by the way.

pussycatinboots · 05/06/2020 17:40

How about this?
www.johnlewis.com/browse/furniture-lights/kitchen/bar-tables/_/N-c4j

or get some paint and change the colour of the ugly table?
frenchicpaint.co.uk/blogs/upcycling-makeovers?page=1

Then you could buy the watch and a cheaper blender.

Alanna1 · 05/06/2020 17:42

Option A. No blender is worth that. BTW you could also get a previous generation apple watch too.

kenandbarbie · 05/06/2020 17:43

Can't you spray your existing table white?

AngeloMysterioso · 05/06/2020 17:43

The folding dining chairs can’t be much less comfortable than the ones we have now...

OP posts:
Knittedfairies · 05/06/2020 17:43

Option C, and primer and paint for the table.

CoronaIsComing · 05/06/2020 17:45

A

Mnthrowaway20202 · 05/06/2020 17:46

Personally I don’t like any of the items. I don’t like the aesthetic of the table, I’m a happy Apple Watch user and I think the blender is overpriced.

But you do you hun. I think the table/watch combo is the best and then buy the blender at a later date. Maybe just buy a nutribullet that you can use in the interim as they’re inexpensive

lunar1 · 05/06/2020 17:46

I e had my vitamix 10 years and have used it at lease three times a week so I'd go with that option!

kimlo · 05/06/2020 17:47

I would have said a but I got one second hand for £40 and the place I got it from have the same style a lot. It's perfect for what I needed it for but the chairs aren't comfortable for long.

Cheesypea · 05/06/2020 17:48

I used a cheap stick blender for baby. She turned out alright.
I dont like that folding table and chairs either.
If the watch is to your tastes buy it. But i think you could get something similar for around £100.

JassyRadlett · 05/06/2020 17:48

A or D. Much more utility and personal benefit for you.
