Ideas please of things you've found good for age 5/6 month sitting baby please With my DS we went to a lot of activities / Playgroup's and sensory class. As not possible at the moment would like to buy a few bits for DD 🧸

Only thing on my list so far...
Rainmaker toy

As the owner of a child in that age bracket hits here include.

Skwish toy
Coloured scarfs
A rattle he can hold
Linking rings
Anything with a mirror or shiny bits on it
Muslin squares
And his number 1 favourite toy... the packet of wet wipes Grin

The best thing I bought for my DS when he was a little older was a fisher price crawl around car. It’s about £50 in Argos so a tad pricey. I bought it went he was about 6.5/7mo back in Feb and he’s probably played with it every day. Obviously not all day every day, ranges from two minutes to about an hour.

For smaller bits... stacking toys are quite good, tomy squeak eggs.

Ultimately my 11 month DS doesn’t really play with many toys. He likes tape measures, the TV remote (we’ve give him an old one of his own), saucepans, coasters, my hair brush, he has a kitchen cupboard full of Tupperware he likes to pull out.

His playmat converted to a ball pit and I bought him a 100 pack of balls to go in it and he’s a fan.

Bottles (lid tightly secured! I glued mine) with sequins, water and oil (plus a splash of food colouring), pasta.

Coloured scarves.

Soft books with tags and textures

Nuby teethy ring (the one with bees and beads on).

Mirrors.

Lights and bubbles.

Google 'treasure baskets' perfect for that age!

NuffSaidSam · 05/06/2020 20:14

The Imagination Tree is a good website for treasure baskets too.

Dd liked rattles she could hold, the nuby icy bite keys, things with different textures, and board books she could chew on. Also bath time and bath toys. Also every day stuff like my telephone wire style hair bands, a tea towel, the spiky plastic tumble dryer balls.

Unopened packet crisps !!

Wolfgirrl · 05/06/2020 21:02

Stacking cups
Little maracas
The Nuby teething icy bite thing
Matchstick Monkey (cant reccomend enough)
Cloth or bath books

Brilliant thank you all for the ideas.

We have a few animal type rattles and I've located the teething keys we had in the drawn from DS boiling water and some anti bac and good as new !

Will invest in a monkey and some scarves and build my own basket !

@Betty98 I think DS would get mega jealous of the car if we fit that for DD 😂 He's coming up 4 so wouldn't fit in it. It looks like something you have to step over al the time, but worth it as they love it.

Mine likes anything that makes a noise - those Lamaze type fireflies (we have the Aldi version) and a shaker type toy which makes noises when tilted. He’s just starting to explore the hide and squeak eggs too.

And he is obsessed with crisp packets!

ishouldtryabiteachdayy · 06/06/2020 00:35

Ha the crisp packets and wipes win.

Forgot to say we also have a skwish and it's great !

We have a selection of the ‘that’s not my .....’ books that DS likes to touch and feel
Rainmakers
Vetch musical toys
Sensory basket - different fabrics/balls/safe household items such as wooden spoon, silicon trays etc

It is isn't it. Other than the wipes its the only toy DS is guaranteed to play with. Its going to be one of my go to gifts everytime someone I know has a baby in future. Grin

The VTech crawl and learn ball is good. As is the Bright Starts O-Ball. If you wan to help them learn how to self-feed, even them a short baby spoon to play with.
