Rental property electrical safety check - I'm worried

First, I need to say I do have really bad anxiety and with everything going on it is hard to control lately. So please tell me to get a grip!

An electrician is coming tomorrow to do an electrical safety check. He's going to be here for a couple of hours. Am I going to have to clean everything he's touched? Can I ask him to wear a face covering and gloves?

It's going to be fine, right?

Your concerns are perfectly valid, and if he doesn’t come with face covering and gloves (the gloves should go on fresh before he touches anything in your house, he shouldn’t come in from his van wearing them), I’d be very surprised.

it's going to be fine. He won't want to take risks either. Wait outside while he does the work, (take a book) then go round with spray containing bleach afterwards if you want.

As PP said he should put on fresh gloves & mask , ( I would insist ) .
But please don't spray electrical stuff with any liquid ! If you get a little over enthusiastic you could end up been frazzled Shock.
Lightly spray a cloth with the cleaner of your choice then wipe things over.

Thank you all for the reassurance.

I'm a little bit frustrated that this is happening now even though it doesn't have to be completed until 2021. I just wish the LL would hold off for another month or so. I can't have my twin sister visit but this total stranger is a-ok. But I guess with lockdown easing it's fine.

Argh, spiralling.

I know it's silly to get worked up over it.

It’s not silly to get worked up about this-the world is a funny place just now, and people who have never had a moment’s anxiety in their lives are feeling the strain.
Because he’s a tradesman, he won’t be in your house any longer than he has to be, try to be glad your landlord is totally on top of things like this rather than leaving it to the last minute and you having to chase them for it.

er, I did assume that the OP is not going to spray liquid into sockets, but rather that she will wipe down door handles, surfaces, toilet, taps etc.

and why would you not want a safety check done a year earlier than the legal deadline - or it may be in the deadline if you have recently moved in? I'm only holding off because the guidance and detail is not yet stable. I do know that the property is electrically as safe as it can be.
