To the person who picked my Waitrose order this morning

I just want to say a MASSIVE thankyou to you.

I know my requests for green bananas, underipe avocados, lean bacon etc. etc. might be very irritating, but the fact that you and your colleagues do actually send me those things means a great deal to me.

I have been isolated now for 13 weeks, only going out to my allotment. I have no one here with me and only see friends / family on video. The food you deliver to me is my only treat.

I order once a fortnight to save slots for other people and you help me to make my order last two weeks.

So, please be aware that the care you put into picking my order is very much appreciated. I wish I could meet you to say thank you, or know who you are so I could tell Waitrose just how much you do to make this customer very, very, happy.

THANK YOU Flowers Flowers

You can tell Waitrose. Contact them with your order number and they will pass your compliments on to the picker.

Meanwhile Asda send me overripe bananas and past their best mushrooms Envy

Puddlesplasher · 04/06/2020 19:43

That's lovely. Have you emailed the store to let them know how pleased you are? I'm glad you have your allotment to keep you sane.

GravityFalls · 04/06/2020 19:46

They do give great service. I’m so pleased you’re getting what you want! I would give anything for a Waitrose delivery, I’m stuck with Morrison’s as they’re the only place with slots (and loads of them for some reason) and their subs are terrible! The other week I ordered wine and they didn’t have what I ordered so they sent...nothing! No wine! Same with the joint of beef for Sunday lunch.

It makes so much difference to get real, thoughtful customer service.

SaigonSaigon · 04/06/2020 19:56

Ahh that's lovely to hear 😊

Obviouspretzel · 04/06/2020 20:00

I think the more important thing is how are you managing to get your unripe avocados to ripen? If I buy them hard they never go soft. They just sit there until they are black inside.

Keep them out of the fridge in the fruit bowl near bananas, that usually helps.
Windyatthebeach · 04/06/2020 20:10

Are you selling allotment goodies op??

NervousInYorkshire · 04/06/2020 20:12

@Windyatthebeach

Are you selling allotment goodies op??
Why would they be? Hmm
Windyatthebeach · 04/06/2020 20:14

Mm some people are thinking of others at this time...
Sorry for being thoughtful..

SistemaAddict · 04/06/2020 20:16

Waitrose customer service is e celebrate. It's been 11 weeks for us too and the weekly Waitrose delivery is our highlight. My frozen items arrived defrosted once due to some unknown reason. I phoned the store and the manager arranged for replacements to be delivered in a couple of hours. My substitutions are usually to my benefit as they are often the duchy items or the posher versions of things like GÜ cheesecakes instead of Waitrose essentials ones. My mum was really impressed as they were for her. The staff are excellent at our store. I do miss the money off vouchers though as they aren't doing them at the moment.

SistemaAddict · 04/06/2020 20:18

I regularly give feedback via customer services email.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 04/06/2020 20:21

Tweet them & tell them.
That’s lovely.

Samtsirch · 04/06/2020 20:30

Yes do email and tell them.
When I worked in a supermarket years ago it was wonderful to hear of a customer compliment or thank you to staff.
They always stood out like a ray of sunshine amongst the usual complaining and general bad tempered ness.

sallywinter · 04/06/2020 20:35

The pickers forgot something I could have totally lived without (didn’t mind at all) and the delivery driver dropped it in on his way home. Above and beyond

clareykb · 04/06/2020 20:43

I once had brilliant customer service in Sainsburys after one of by twins (in baby seat of trolley) puked over the entire trolley load of shopping. One of the staff literally took it away, took my list and refilled a new trolley whilst I sorted out the refluxy child. Came back and it was all packed and ready to be paid for. I did send the store a message about it and the next time I was in they both said thanks and that it meant a lot to have good feedback so it does get back to the employees...worth doing.

Willow2017 · 04/06/2020 20:55

OP you can email or phone the manager and ask them to pass on your thanks.
I dont work for Waitrose but we get some lovely messages from our clients when they order stuff via email its all printed out with the list and my direct manager who takes orders on the phone will pass on good wishes to us.
Its lovely to be appreciated now and again (makes a change) although i do like doing the shopping, it makes the day go quickly when you are buzzing around all day hunting out stuff you didnt know existed or deciphering what someone has written! Grin

LikeSilentRaindrops · 04/06/2020 21:02

I decided to do our big Xmas shop at Waitrose when I was 41 weeks pregnant...got teary a third of the way round, but pushed on, and was really struggling when I was only halfway through. A lovely employee took me off to the cafe and gave me some tea and cake while another one took my list and finished off the shopping. They scanned it, packed it and took it to my car - I cried all over again because I was so grateful Grin

I LOVE Waitrose, wish I could afford to shop there all the time.

Sparklingbrook · 04/06/2020 21:20

That's so nice. I have a friend who has done a bit of supermarket picking, it's not as easy you may think. The pickers are timed too.

I emailed the Customer Service of a shop I used last week to say how much I liked shopping there at the moment. Got a lovely email back.

GnomeDePlume · 04/06/2020 21:57

DD2 is currently a picker at Asda. She said that they can only pick what is on the shelf. At the moment loose veg isnt a good bet as so much is poor quality. Not sure whether this is a problem right through the supply chain. Possibly imported fruit & veg is spending a bit longer at the ports.

potter5 · 04/06/2020 22:26

Love Waitrose!

namechangenumber2 · 04/06/2020 22:33

Ah that's good!

Asda didn't have my 4 pack of long life apple juice.. they sent one pack of prune juice instead Angry, such a bizarre choice of sub?!

Jaxhog · 04/06/2020 22:41

We get Sainsbury deliveries which aren't too bad. I can't go out, and they're the only supermarket we can get slots with. I so, so miss Waitrose.

Notverygrownup · 04/06/2020 22:46

To ripen avocados - yy to putting them next to (or in a paper bag with) ripe bananas for a day or two.

I believe you can also clingfilm them then pop them into the microwave for 20 seconds. Then allow to cool. Haven't tried this yet, but I would love to.

I really want an avocado now, but they are horrendous for the environment, so am trying to avoid them.

NervousInYorkshire · 04/06/2020 23:41

Sorry if I was prickly- I've just never heard of anyone flogging their allotment glut. Giving to friends/neighbours/food banks, on the other hand, seemed really common at my old allotment.

Glad you're getting the most out of yours OP. I had to give mine up last year because I wasn't able to get to it regularly enough (yay agoraphobia) - I guess that's just as well as I'm shielding at the moment and couldn't get there and back without a taxi or public transport.
I'm lucky enough to have a shared garden though, and am growing salad and spuds and strawberries and stuff Smile

I sometimes go a bit wild and do a shop with waitrose and their stuff's always really nice - great for basics and indulgent stuff too. Tesco keep sending stuff that's out of date the next day Angry

H1978 · 04/06/2020 23:45

Our Asda is great at picking substitutes but Tesco are awful at even providing subs, the items are just ‘out of stock’. I’d rather have a choice of subs which I either refuse or keep than no choice at all.
