WWYD - cancel or keep holiday

Due to go to Haven in Cornwall early July - they emailed today to say that my booking has changed to a "Haven Hideaway" booking. Which essentially means no pubs/restaurants, pool, entertainment of activities will be open. Only accommodation, laundrette, takeaways etc. And of course the beach! They're offering either a 20% discount on the holiday, to love the holiday or a full cancellation and refund.

I don't mind no facilities on a sunny day as me and the kids (4&8) much prefer the beach - so if it's a week of sun then we'd be on the beach all day anyway. We'd have only been using the pool anyway. Otherwise it's a long way to go from Yorkshire to sit in a caravan in the rain. Shame about the evening entertainment as they love the discos.

I'm so torn. WWYD - go and take the discount or cancel??

I think I would cancel. As you say it’s a long drive to sit in a caravan if it’s wet.

I think I’d cancel too 😔. We are booked abroad in sept and we would go but only because we are guaranteed the sun so not the end of the world if the entertainment doesn’t go ahead. For holiday destinations with iffy weather I think postponing might be best. Maybe you could book for longer next year instead? X

Immigrantsong · 04/06/2020 20:27

I would cancel OP.

We had a cottage booked in August in Wales and the company have allowed us to reschedule for next year. We would have lost half our deposit if we cancelled but we aren’t prepared to go this year

ureterr1blemuriel · 04/06/2020 20:43

When is the cancellation deadline? Can you not leave it until the last minute and check the long range weather forecast? We are still going on our holiday if we can - we prefer cooking our own food though, beach, drinking in the accommodation though

ureterr1blemuriel · 04/06/2020 20:44

Too many thoughs! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Egora · 04/06/2020 20:47

I would cancel.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/06/2020 20:47

After all the lovely weather recently, I’d be worried about having a week of cold, cloudy weather if not rain.
With no onsite facilities and other tourist attractions also likely to be closed I think I’d be cancelling and saving the money for when things are more certain.

Susanna85 · 04/06/2020 20:50

I would cancel unfortunately.

20% isn't a very good discount when taking into account everything that's going to be unavailable.

RomaineCalm · 04/06/2020 21:09

I would cancel I think. It's a long way to go to sit in a caravan if the weather is bad. Even the journey is more arduous with limited services etc.

If you take the refund you might find somewhere last minute locally if the weather forecast looks good - even if it's for a shorter break.

I believe that holidays should be different/better than being at home. In those circumstances you could still have a good break and do some different things without driving 350 miles and spending a fortune.

Windyatthebeach · 04/06/2020 21:11

We have taken the evoucher. Next year's must be booked by 31 /12 /20. And a free £50 food voucher for the restaurant..

BendingSpoons · 04/06/2020 21:14

I'd cancel/postpone. If the weather if going to be good you might be able to rebook.
