Airbnb- Saturday 4th July

Aridane · 04/06/2020 17:17

Have just registered with Airbnb and looking to see what’s out there when things open up.

Their website - unsurprisingly - references coronavirus travel restrictions etc but has bookings open from 4th July.

Is Airbnb taking a punt on this or has there been some announce, ent or regulation opening up accommodation from this date?

I have recently made a few bookings on Airbnb for August, many of the hosts are offering very flexible cancellation policies at the moment.

Aridane · 04/06/2020 17:34

The one I looked at only offers cancellation 48 hours after booking. Think I will get in touch and ask

The 4th July is a date mentioned by the government that some pubs and restaurants may be able to open. I assume they are using that date as they know businesses will be closed until then at least.
You need to be searching for airbnb properties with flexible cancellation policies - the option is on the search bar.

I agree with Loppy about why they're using the date. I'm not sure people will be able to stay away over night on 4 July though.

Aridane · 04/06/2020 21:02

Thank you -:that makes sense on the date .

I am filtering for flexible cancellation - though it’s seems flexible cancellation can mean you can cancel without penalty within 48 hours, after that you only get 50% back Shock

Both of the reservations I have made can be cancelled with a full refund up until 14 days before or for cancellations after 14 days but before 48 hours I would have to pay the service fee. (about £35).

Aridane · 05/06/2020 10:02

Thank you - I think I need to look for that type of cancellation

I’ve made the booking wef from 4th July

Not sure what happens if government doesn’t soften lockdown by then - ie whether host cancels, or just goes ahead and doesn’t ask for evidence of key worker status staying there for work etc

@Ariadne Hosts can't usually cancel a booking. If they do they lose their Superhost status and are fined $50 or the equivalent in local currency. (I am an Airbnb host)

Aridane · 11/06/2020 07:24

Ah, thanks

So I guess hosts are relying on 4th July being when government permits some accommodation to reopen

And if government doesn’t soften lockdown, we’ll, we’ll see.

A bit like airlines scheduling flights from mid July and package holidays etc begging sold wef this date
