Single parents help

I have become a single parent during lockdown and don't know how i will manage to get any shopping. Who are we allowed to let into our home or leave kids with? How is everybody else doing it? I don't want to take them with me as they have special needs and shopping was stressful before lockdown but if i have to i will. They won't be going back to school yet as they are not in the year groups asked to return so school is not an option

I take mine but I can understand that it might be stressful if they have additional needs. Is there a quiet time you can go?

curtainsforme the problem is i have children with special needs and nobody to leave them with so i can buy food to feed them on their limited diets.

How did you get shopping previously? Have you never taken them? Get into your local community groups on Facebook - lots of help available there.

Hi OP, id recommend taking them with you to Aldi for as quick a trip as possible, just to pick up those foods which are non negotiable for your child, then do click and collect for the bulk of your shopping.

I'm a single parent and I click and collect from Sainsbury's. There's a minimum order of £40. I order it using their app a few days in advance, and choose a window of one hour to collect.
You drive to Sainsbury's, and follow the signs for click and collect in the car park. Usually they have a delivery van parked in a far corner of the car park, away from the main shop. You pull into one of the designated parking spaces by their van, tell the driver your name and wait by the boot of your car. They bring the crates over and you unload them into your car.
I leave DC in the car the whole time, I don't have to take more than one step away from the car and I can leave windows/doors/boot wide open to them to chat.
The whole collection usually takes less than 5 minutes.

I have never taken them. They would stay home with their dad or i would go when they are at school. I will take them with me and try to find out the quietest time first

Also I completely understand why seemingly simple tasks can be very daunting when you're a newly single parent and have to suddenly figure out new ways of doing things - and that's without social distancing and children with additional needs.
Go easy on yourself, there'll be many everyday challenges but you will slowly start to find a way through them, until they become less and less.

Third and final post from me! Google your local store and on the Google location result it will show you the quietest times at your specific store.
