I'm in this position, both of us are key workers, we have been managing so far by me having to WFH (in a job that normally involves very much not WFH) and look after two pre-school age children but it's been really awful and I can't continue any more. My children are being neglected and I'm going to make a mistake at work which could be catastrophic.
DH can't work from home.
A few weeks ago we started using healthy under 60yo grandparents for childcare a couple of days a week, pre lockdown this was our only childcare.
Recent government legislation has made it very clear this is no longer allowed and is punishable by a £100 fine.
We have no other childcare. I can't continue to WFH any longer and we can't suddenly afford nursery for 2 children, even if there was a nursery we could use nearby (there isn't). We could pay a nanny (good luck finding one of those in very rural Yorkshire) but if they can come into our house and look after the children all day, why can't their grandparent who usually does it?
How are all the other NHS and police shift workers managing without using their usual family care?
