I'm starting to miss little non essential things!

Dd asleep so doing some tidying and housework.

We are very rural and a trip to places like home bargains, pound shop would be about an hour drive, is not in our nearest town, and is not really essential at the moment.

After eleven weeks at home I was just thinking as I went round house how much I miss the little things.

I get a shop every ten days but have to share with PIL. We are not starving but it's the rubbish i miss.

Random extra cleaning products, cloths, sprays etc. Cupboard is looking a bit sad.

Cooking stuff, marshmallows, spreads, syrup, jams, little random things you don't think of till you see them.

Toys. Things like bubbles, colouring books, a bucket and spade, crayons. I can get the, in amazon but nothing beats a pound shop colouring book.

Junk food. The cupboard looks very empty. Chewy sweets, weird crisps, interesting biscuits, all gone.

Bathroom crap. Candles, tea lights, bubble bath, weird bath toys, soaps etc.

Garden, cheap seeds, plants, random animals to hide in the flower bed. Solar lights and outdoor wine glasses.

None of this is essential or matters but was just thinking and must enjoy a wander round and buying these little things more than I realised.

Anyone else have silly things they are missing?

Where you are sounds both lovely & like a nightmare!

I get the 'browsing' & just 'life as it was before' is what you're really missing, but could you alleviate the shortage of snacks/junk/additional bits by getting more deliveries so you have your own & your in-laws have their own?

Definitely make the most of Amazon! & other deliveries.

I'm not actively 'missing' anything yet, but I think that's because I feel like I'm choosing this rather than being told I can't because I'm vulnerable so I'm only going out to walk (& when it's quiet) and to take (delivered) shopping to a shielding relative (distanced doorstep deliveries)

I miss browsing around a charity shop, I miss going to waterstones for a mooch, I miss getting my hair done, I miss meeting my friends for a picnic (too many toddlers to socially distance). I even miss going to work and chatting to the kids (I am a secondary teacher). Its ok to miss things.

DinosApple · 03/06/2020 15:52

What I've saved on fuel I've spent in Tesco! Our usual shop is costing around £20 more its not booze. And I still can't get any sugar.

I'm missing browsing in shops, charity shop, book shops, garden centres etc.

And, until this week, time without DH. I feel our marriage works a little better with a bit of space Grin.

poozel · 03/06/2020 15:52

Yes it is lovely and we are lucky in many ways. Except when it snows. Then it's a pain in the arse.

Delivery slots have been tricky. Finally got one tonight and that's first in nearly two weeks.

I also have toddler Dd which makes it harder as no childcare.

I suppose I just want to browse really, as I say completely unimportant but just made me think today.

You’re allowed more than five miles for shopping. Five miles is leisure.

poozel · 03/06/2020 15:55

I know @fascinated but it's the bigger picture.

I can't really justify to wider family pissing off to wander about the shops for stuff I don't essentially need dragging toddler with me.

None of its important, probably just feeling lonely today and musing over the little things.

I miss mine and my youngest DS’s swimming lesson. It was just 30mins every week but it felt like a really special bonding time for us whilst everybody else was at work or school. It doesn’t help I’m still having to pay for it to keep our space!

Likethebattle · 03/06/2020 16:00

Get pil a separate shopping slot. We are in Scotland and can get sainsburys slots with no bother.

Mrsjayy · 03/06/2020 16:01

This is silly but I don't drive and I miss jumping on the bus I mean there is nowhere I need to go nothing is opened but...

lpchill · 03/06/2020 16:06

I really miss charity shops!!! Would get the majority of mine and DD clothes. I've lost weight and dropped a dress size and struggling with clothes. Just can't justify spending loads especially when I can't try it on plus I miss hunting for my branded bargains I've found over the years

fascinated · 03/06/2020 16:06

Hi. Sorry I missed what you said about being shielded.

I feel your pain. I have a toddler and no childcare and it’s relentless...

I’ve been having recurring daydreams about a cappuccino and a cake at the garden centre... I have no idea why that particular place keeps coming to mind, it’s not even as if it’s that great, it’s full of tat that I wouldn’t buy (but secretly like to window shop!) and I hardly ever do it normally!

I suppose it must be something subliminal - it’s really the epitome of an unnecessary (frivolous) trip!

fascinated · 03/06/2020 16:08

Amazon do quite good snack stuff, chocolate etc. Or try Sainsbury’s for slots? Could you get a click and collect and use that as an excuse for getting out? Toddler could be in the back... you’d at least get a change of scene? I found it really easy to collect, great distancing, v safe.

poozel · 03/06/2020 16:10

Ha, yes the garden centre. Strangely I want to go for a baked potato. I could have that here, but I want to go to the garden centre!

We can only get tesco or Asda here unfortunately. There is talk of morrisons shortly covering our area but not yet.

My mum was talking about Dobbies garden centre strawberry tarts. The other day my DD usually takes us once a month for a mooch and. Cake my mum had a notion for strawberry tart big enough you need a spoon to eat itGrin

fascinated · 03/06/2020 16:14

How annoying.

Right at the start there were no Click and Collects or deliveries at all. We were self isolating and I was extremely stressed by it all.

poozel · 03/06/2020 16:15

Ooohhh @Mrsjayy yes. A strawberry tart would be lovely.

It was strange here @fascinated. First few weeks were busy but I got a slot, or one appeared, each week. It's got harder and harder. Hence this one being 12 days and is coming at 10pm tonight. I will struggle to still be up.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 03/06/2020 16:21

Hopefully. Phase 2, won't be too long @poozel and we can have another bit of normality and you can get to the shops

poozel · 03/06/2020 16:23

Yes @Mrsjayy and you can go on the bus just for the fun of it.

OP posts:
UrbanDoughnut · 03/06/2020 16:25

Just go and get those things then? What a strange post

derxa · 03/06/2020 16:26

poozel I miss the agricultural shows. The Highland Show is one of our highlights. Do you usually go?

poozel · 03/06/2020 16:28

@UrbanDoughnut I've explained in my various posts why I can't do that. I'm sorry if that's strange to you.

@derxa oh yes absolutely, the shows. Again just browsing and wandering round. All the small local ones have been cancelled as well now.

OP posts:
derxa · 03/06/2020 16:32

All the small local ones have been cancelled as well now. I know Sad
We let our field for parking for our local one. It's usually a pain in the arse but I miss the hassle. Grin

derxa · 03/06/2020 16:34

I can't really justify to wider family pissing off to wander about the shops for stuff I don't essentially need dragging toddler with me. Yes I understand.

poozel · 03/06/2020 16:35

@derxa haha. I know. I am in the industrial tent in ours. It's like a total nightmare of cake rivals and child entry wars. I moan every year. But I miss it.
