New born. Gift for older sibling?

I've always given siblings gifts when a new baby is born so they don't feel left out. But the siblings have always been at most 4 years old.
Neighbour has just had a baby. Her eldest is 10 and often plays out with my DD. I don't know the mum very well as we have limited communication due to language.

Do you still buy a much older child a gift? Or assume they're old enough not to be jealous and don't need occupying when a half sibling arrives?

No, don’t assume that a 10 year old is too old to be jealous. And jealously could be even worse with half siblings. Yes’m I’d get a small (in value) but special present.

What a lovely idea. I did the same with my children. Don't assume that a 10 year old is too old to feel overlooked. I'm sure she'll appreciate whatever you choose to gift.

I would for family or close friends but not for an acquaintance like that. It would be very kind of you though.

I was 11 when my brother was born and I don't think I got any gifts. I definitely wasn't jealous. It would be a nice gesture but unnecessary I'd say.
