Anyone worked in Starbucks?

Anybody worked in Starbucks before? I've never worked in any job like this before. Just applied for a job as a barista, wondered what experiences you have had?

I worked in Starbucks for a couple of years.

It’s very physical being on your feet all day. Wear comfy shoes. You need to be good at multitasking and able to work quickly without flapping when it’s busy.

Patience is often needed, as the customer who doesn’t know there are different types of coffee will show up at the busiest point of the day.

There’s always something that needs doing, so the day goes quickly.

I used to be a barista while in uni. It wasn’t at Starbucks but a smaller local chain. I actually really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about coffee which was really interesting (so unfortunately I know when people make me a bad one) and people have weird coffee related eccentricities. Had one woman who came in about 3 times a week, ordered whatever drink iced with THREE ICE CUBES. Not 2, not 4 but three. She’d count them.

It’s fast paced and you’re on your feet a lot, but I thought it was fine, as jobs go.

I loved it. I worked in a really busy city centre shop. Definitely hard work, as a pp said, you’re on your feet all day and you have to be able to remember ridiculous orders, but you get to meet loads of different people.

I was forever burning myself on the machines though. Yeouch. Those tin milk jugs get HOT!

Really interested in this thread, not because I want to be a barista (too old!) just because, generally, coffee shop staff seem to work so hard and still remain cheerful and helpful.
