How can anyone plan travel when insurers aren't covering for Covid 19?

Like many others are summer plans are cancelled due to the current situation.

I had the option to postpone my flights to the USA but I have decided not to do so until I know if/when I will be able to purchase full travel insurance.

Most insurance companies are stating that they aren't providing cover for anything pertaining to Covid -19.

So for those who are planning to travel next summer do you already have insurance in place that will provide cover or are you just not worried about it?

Decent ones are covering you if you get sick whilst on holiday but won’t cover you if it gets cancelled because of covid.

I’d book last minute on that basis

I must admit that was my thoughts also regarding insurance, also because we are leaving the EU, not sure what happens with Ehic cards. DS is keen to go away this year as he has annual insurance that runs out in December but he hasn’t mentioned next year.

That’s good to know ACautionaryTale. It was the medical side I was worried about going forward.

Some are covering. Mine is. So many assumptions being made about people traveling without insurance or against FCO advice. I feel like some people want to ban holidays forever.

It's the medical cover which I want most.

I can stand the cost of a cancelled holiday or flight - but if one of us got taken ill, hospitalised/died whilst in the USA the costs would be astronomical. That's not a risk I will take.

Good to hear there are some insurers still covering though. Would you mind sharing chocolate ?

I buy an annual worldwide policy and they have stated that they are not covering so I won't be renewing my policy.

I renewed mine 1 April, it covers me for all medical costs if I caught covid 19, just not cancellation due to it.

Staysure are covering for Covid as long as you don't travel against FCO guidelines, I believe Aviva may be too.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/06/2020 19:12

Stay sure are covering now.

goatley · 02/06/2020 19:25

Ah - I just had a look at Staysure . Their price for a similar policy is just a little higher than my existing plan.

I won't be travelling for a while so don't need any insurance atm.

Makes me feel better knowing that we can though. I have family in the States but will not go there without being fully prepared for ANY eventuality!

Mine's an annual staff policy, automatically renews every year for free. Holidays booked before March are covered for cancellation due to Covid, and for medical costs.
