Where shall we live?

So Dh and I live in the east midlands, with our three children. Dh works from home full time in a stable job and a career that should always be a work from home job. Therefore, before the children hit teens, we have decided to relocate. We want coast in short driving distance (say 30 mins) and same for countryside. The only catch is that Dh needs to be within around 2hrs train ride of a major city to be able to meet clients which happens every few months.
So right now he gets to london in two hrs no probs.

So far, we have been looking at East riding of yorkshire and South Wales.. For commute to Cardiff for clients.

Which? Anywhere we haven't considered?
Budget is around 300k up to 350k at a push. I've seen plenty of properties in both areas so hopeful we can get that.
But which one? We have visited both areas lots and enjoy them. Can't decide!

I think I'm leaning towards east or north yorkshire. They seem to have houses with quite large gardens some even with up to half an acre!
Somewhere between York and the coast? Beverley and driffield look nice. School wise, I'd prefer smaller primary schools. My ds2 is struggling a lot at school, utterly overwhelmed by his class size.

Ds1 will likely thrive at any school, he's in yr 7. He's very social and academic and sporty.

Ds3 is a toddler

@Chipsahoy, have a look at Pocklington.

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2020 10:05

Beverley definitely op. Glad you like it

I’d go to the Isle of Bute, schools and college in the island, surrounded by coast and a half hour ferry and direct train of 40 minutes to Glasgow.

And I would for that budget have this house.

Or spend half your budget and have this, with the beach across the road.

Ps if your children are academic, reside in Scotland for three years and they qualify for free university tuition fees.

North east Scotland-less than 2 hours by train to Aberdeen, less than an hour to Inverness. Schools are good, close to beach and country. New sports centre been built in Elgin.

@10CormoranStrike omg! I need that house!

The first one is amazing. @10CormoranStrike.

I like the idea of there @37trockodile as my brother lives in Aberdeen. Not sure if want to be so far away from my family in the midlands though, two kids in Aberdeen, not sure they'd be thrilled!

I will also look at pocklington! It is so lovely to have options. Scary and exciting to sort of start a new chapter in our lives. It feels like a now or never.

I've had a crap past, grooming and cse similar to the gangs that have been in the news. It's taken me years of therapy and pain and effort. I now want to start afresh. Not I know I'm not running from anything, it's time to run towards something new.
Thanks all.

@chipsahoy I love house one as well, those sunrises each morning are stunning.

It’s my dream lottery house!

Another vote for the Northumberland coast around/north of Newcastle.

As well as Newcastle you've got Edinburgh in

SkyPieRat · 02/06/2020 16:40

Why a major city? Where are his clients coming from? Is he sure they can get to a [random] city as easily as London or is he banking on getting new, more local clients?

Chipsahoy · 02/06/2020 16:45

He has clients all over, Jersey, Guernsey, but majority are in London. He doesn't go and see them except usually when he first meets them/closes the deal. He has other company members who can do London, so it would not be a bad thing to be further away and then they could even expand a bit and have clients in other cities too.
Plus he gets nervous, should the company go tits up, he wants to be able to contract. He'd need a city for that.
And I'd like a job at some point again!

York is just over 2 hours to LKX by train, if you are really interested in that York/East coast area, but unsure of airports which have flights from Jersey and Guernsey.
