The sun is making me itchy

Has anyone else experienced this? First it was just my neck and chest and I had an itchy rash. Now my arms are itchy too. I've only been out here 5 minutes to get some vitamin D while I ha e a cup of tea. The rash and itch continued out of the sun for a day or so the other day.

Is it blotchy? Quite big patches? I have polymorphic light eruption and it is an itchy rash that comes on when I've been in the sun. Only where my skin is exposed and not on my face. It's bloody itchy but the patches do ease off and will disappear after a few days, out of the sun though!

This was it the day after. It was redder the night before. My arms just go red and itchy and my freckles go crazy.

I was going to suggest pmle too. I'm not going out at all today as I've broken out from yesterday but I've managed to harden my skin to it significantly over the last few weeks.

Yep, I'd be another vote for polymorphic light eruption. I've been sulking in the house all weekend after a flare up on Friday. It's the first time I've had it but I have been out in the sun a lot more this year since I've taken up cycling. I've invested in some long sleeved UV blocking tops...and I'm not going out cycle again until they arrive. I've found slathering on aloe gel decent temporary relief from the itching.

dappledsunshine · 31/05/2020 12:58

Me too op! I've never had a reaction like this before but I've got an itchy raised rash on my arms. I'm staying out of the sun now and using cool packs and creams to cool it down. It's itchy as hell though especially at night.

TheSmelliestHouse · 31/05/2020 13:01

Another vote for pmle. UV really high just now.

SistemaAddict · 31/05/2020 13:11

Thank you. I'm an itchy, sneezy, wheezy person so this is something new to add to the list 😔

I've blossomed forth in a massive reaction to UV light - but its not itchy, its tiny bruises (non blanching rash) and though its worse in sun exposed areas, it has spread to unexposed areas too. I've seen a GP who is perplexed, and have blood tests booked for next week, but if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it

ProudMarys · 31/05/2020 13:12

I get this or possibly prickly heat I'm not sure, but I get ichy patches of red raised bumps on my hands and chest. But I find best thing over the years is always use a sun sensitive sunscreen before ever going out into the sun, and always. I use 'ultrasun family'. Always use 30 s p f or above. I've had it under control the pass couple of years.

ProudMarys · 31/05/2020 13:15

Plus a anti histamine if it's very itchy helps

SistemaAddict · 31/05/2020 13:51

I take fexafenadine for hay fever already but might add another antihistamine in.

I'm also an itchy, sneezy, wheezy person. I've only had this for the past year or so. Its linked to oestrogen somehow. Apparently it usually goes when menopause calms down, but I'm in my mid 30s so I've got a while to wait!

InTheCludgie · 31/05/2020 14:22

I had something similar yesterday after a few hours in the garden. Developed itchy red raised bumps on both shoulders but nowhere else. Completely gone today though

BillywigSting · 31/05/2020 15:22

I have pmle and it looks very much like it.

I find antihistamines + betnovate steriod cream (on prescription) + lots of high factor sensitive sunscreen keeps it mostly under control.

Mine hasn't been too bad this year but last year was horrendous. I get it on my hands and feet and my hands were that itchy /stingy and swollen I could barely move my fingers (hence the steriod cream!)

petermaysawthefuture · 31/05/2020 15:33

Me too @bercows. Had something similar a few years ago but that was a reaction to medication I was taking.
It's mainly on my forearms.

AlCalavicci · 31/05/2020 16:54

I am not sure if what I get is the same but I got tiny slightly raised red spots , sometimes just in the crook of my arms and backs of my knees others times it can be all over . It is incredibly itchy some things make it worse like sun oil ( rather than cream ) nivia , nylon clothing , and anything that makes me sweaty.
The only relife is cold water, cold packs , frozen peas etc .
About 10 years ago we were in Greece when there was a solar flare the beaches had to be closed becase people were burning ( enough in a few cases to need medical treatment ) their feet.

I was absoulty cover in this rash , the only way I could sleep is by lying under a cold running shower.
The hotel owner recommended I go to a particual chemist and ask them for treatment . I did this , the lady there was absoulty wonderful . Even though she did not speak English and I don't speak Greek we managed to assess that I don't have any allergies and she gave me some antihistamine, to take immediately and some to take away , she applied a thick cream , and gave me another big tub .
And told me to drink lots of water and stay as cool as possible.

Within a hour I started to feel better and by three hours later the rash had all but gone and I felt so much better.

So why in the hell did I not go and ask for the English translation to what i had been given .
To this day I have not found any thing that is a patch on whatever I was given . Sad

DoYourTitsHangLow · 31/05/2020 16:56

I suffer prickly heat and was recommended Heliocare capsules. I use there SPF50 skincare anyway which is fab and if I take these in a run up to a holiday, I don't suffer with the prickly heat

Mojitomogul · 31/05/2020 16:59

Also could be your body moisturiser, suncream, or any self tanner or shower gel ingredients reacting with the sunlight? I used to get this in the sun when I uses a particular brand of moisturiser and then went in the sun, always thought it was just prickly heat but then stopped the moisturiser and it never came up again.

BarbedBloom · 31/05/2020 17:27

I get the same, I hate the summer. I am wheezy all the time, skin sore and itchy, my RA flares up and I get light migraines

SistemaAddict · 31/05/2020 17:34

I don't use any moisturiser on my chest or arms, just my face and neck. No sun cream on either for my vit d dosing. My shoulders are bumpy too I've realised. I'm 43 and peri menopausal so that could be it.
