What days do you consider to be the weekend?

I suppose Sunday is the front end of the week

It is the last day of the weekEND. You can't get anymore "end" than that!

FloraGreysteel · 31/05/2020 10:07

It's not though Grin

Sparklingbrook · 31/05/2020 10:09

I can honestly say that Sunday being the first day of the new week to me has never caused a problem.

NeuroAtypical · 31/05/2020 10:14

I used to but now, I'm not sure..I don't think about it anymore. I do consider Saturday and Sunday to be weekend. ("What is a weekend?" - Downton Abbey😄)

Anyway, I suppose Monday would be seen as the first day of the week due to school/work.

NeuroAtypical · 31/05/2020 10:16

In some way, Sunday signifies the start of a new week for me, but Monday is the start of a new workweek/weekdays.

Elisheva · 31/05/2020 10:17

Saturday and Sunday are at either end of the week - like bookends. So Sunday is the first day and Saturday the last.

"Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week. The women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb"
The first Easter Sunday.

For weekend, you have Sunday at the beginning end of the week, and Saturday on the end end of the week.
It actually makes more sense, because why 2 days counting as the end? Why not one, or three..?

Seeingadistance · 31/05/2020 10:22

Like bookends.

Shelves have two ends - so does the week.

NeuroAtypical · 31/05/2020 10:22

@TeenPlusTwenties Just saw your DA reference..haha..didn't read the thread before commenting.

@ColonelNobbyNobbs You're correct. She didn't know what a weekend was. They were just days to her, not separated into "work" days and rest days. I love the Dowager.😄

Microwaveoven · 31/05/2020 10:26

I see Monday as the beginning of the week. But Sunday is always prep day for the week commencing. So I guess a bit of both. I feel like Sunday leads nicely into Monday.

Sundays are for Food shopping, clean bed sheets, allotment, prep and kids bath!

I guess it all depends how you sort out your week.

cyclingmad · 31/05/2020 10:33

I always see Monday as the first day of the week.

I always get told off for this but if I say this Saturday I mean the Saturday coming so for example if its Wednesday 3rd June I would always say what did you do last weekend as in weekend of 30th/31st and what are you doing this weekend as in 6th/7th and if i say what are you doing next weekend its the 13th/14th. But I am wrong apparently.

Mucklowe · 31/05/2020 10:33

Friday sundown until Saturday sundown (Jewish sabbath).

Tumbleweed101 · 31/05/2020 10:33

Monday feels like the beginning of the week for me but from other replies here I can see why Sunday is considered the beginning for other people.

Seeline · 31/05/2020 10:33

My DH insists Sunday is the first day of the week. I've tried the 'Sunday us part of the weekEND so it can't be' arguement many times, but he won't have it. Me and the DC s just ignore it 😆

Wingingitsince2018 · 31/05/2020 10:35

When I was a student I used to work in a pub that worked on the basis of Sunday being the first day of the week.

It was infuriating as we would only get our rota a couple of days before the end of the current week, so often didn't know until Friday if we were working Sunday so was really hard to make any plans.

Hate it. Monday is the start of the week.

eddiemairswife · 31/05/2020 10:45

God rested on Saturday after the creation, so Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. The Resurrection was on Sunday, so that is the Christian holy day. Those who are fussed about Sunday being classed as the weekend can always call it the weekstart; mind you people will think they've lost their marbles.

Talulahoopla · 31/05/2020 10:50

Agree Monday is the first day but wondered if we interpreted weekend like bookend (ie. One at each side of the books) then that could be an argument for Sunday as the first day rather than the weekend meaning end of the week. Either way, still think Monday is the beginning, weekend is the reward for making it though the week and Sunday is my lazy day before it all starts again Grin
