Argh meat left out of the fridge all night, do I need to bin it all?

As title suggests. Two packs of chicken breasts, two packs of burgers and a pack of pork steaks. Out since 9ish last night on kitchen counter.

(Arrived in food delivery, I was halfway through putting away when DS woke up and I ended up falling asleep with him, woke up when DH came up to bed and just didn't think about the shopping/ assumed he'd have dealt with it Hmm.)

Do I need to chuck it all, or would cooking it all today work?

I would bin it I’m afraid. If it wasn’t so warm outside atm I might have considered sniffing etc but wouldn’t take any chances right now.

Mould in baked beans after one night, though? Do you live in the tropics?

BrutusMcDogface · 31/05/2020 09:33

That was to @glitterbiscuits

glitterbiscuits · 31/05/2020 09:36

They were black beans from a tin, not baked beans. I was really surprised. I'm extremely slatternly with this sort of thing so I can only assume it was the heat. Sadly, not the tropics.

Sniff it. Don't chuck it if it's still good. Waste of food.

ComDummings · 31/05/2020 09:43

Bin it

GooodMythicalMorning · 31/05/2020 10:17

Im quite lax with these things but with the heat its been I would chuck it. sorry

ChaChaChinggg2819 · 31/05/2020 10:19

I've done the exact same OP 🤦‍♀️

Sorry to jump on the thread but does anyone know if i could still cook it and feed it to my cats?

6demandingchildren · 31/05/2020 10:24

If it was uncovered I would throw it, if it's still in its packaging it will be perfectly fine to cook and eat.
My old ndn never had a fridge she kept all her food in a larder including meat that was wrapped in paper, she lived until independently until she dies aged 103. She was a great fan of common sense.

TimeWastingButFun · 31/05/2020 10:24

In the winter I might risk it but definitely not in this weather

WeAllHaveWings · 31/05/2020 10:26

If it was cool last night I would keep, but in this heat I would bin and blame your dh

LaChatte · 31/05/2020 10:32

Someone who worked in food safety came on a similar thread a while ago (about chucking some put of date sausages only to have her husband fish them out of the bin a fair few hours later and eat them) and explained why sniffing it wasn't a reliable way of checking meat, and that anything over 4 hours at room temp (cant remember what time or year) wasn't safe to eat.

If cook it and feed it to my cats and dog.

*Out

*I'd

Typos.

The only thing I'd not eat is the burgers. Even in France they eat burgers well done due to the danger of gastro. Otoh you could use them as mince for spag bol type of thing.

Above all else, if they don't smell OK, I'd chuck them.

GingerScallop · 31/05/2020 10:40

They should be fine. Cook them well done and have a feast. Or freeze what you can eat

Sorry, I know it's a waste but I would bin it all. Think about the temperature in your kitchen overnight ... maybe 18 degrees ish? Food left for any length of time above 8 degrees will start to grow bacteria 🦠 12 hours is a long time to be left out.
