Just thinking, is ginger-bashing a form of 'shadism'?

Like they have in India... ppl of the same 'race' prejudiced against others of a different "shade". Anti-ginger is white-people-shadism?

DP is ginger and we were talking about the US racism and he says he "gets" it bc he's ginger. Of course it's not the same thing. But Just occurred to me.

can't sleep.. Smile

We had 3 redheads in my team at work (out of about 12) and nobody ever bashed them or offended them - and, as their manager, I would have known cos none of the team were backward in sharing any perceived slight. I don't think your DP does get racism and he might want to let go of the victim status as there's a queue for his seat. Smile

...in fact there are a higher concentration of red heads in Wales and Scotland than there are in Ireland.....plenty in England too.
Minor details...

Worst he's likely to encounter is being called carrot top.

DH texted me this morning to let me know that the queue he was in for b&q was long and there were a lot of lobster red people in it. I replied that with his (ginger and fair) colouring he was more like shrimp. He queried raw or cooked. I said definitely cooked after being outdoors all day, yesterday.

As a kid it's a source of bullying at times, and also subtle bullying when you're an adult. However you wouldn't be judged on your ability to a job because if it, so no. However most people with ginger hair do end up with some kind of name calling/ and usually as an adult are expected to put up with it because it's juts all in fun. Except it really isn't.

I certainly haven't experienced anything remotely approaching the kind of treatment that people of different races have had to put up with, the two just can't compare.

Good point about the language but Ive never been treated any differently from other foreigners. They might have been bitching about me but their treatment of me never differed. I am fluent in Danish and have never heard anything in danish norwegian or swedish, not even a throwaway comment on tv.
