Anyone had a crazy low bill from Bulb?

This months E & G bill Is a third of what we normally pay which I’m puzzled by having been in the house all month?!
Anyone else had the same?
Has there been a coronavirus related discount that I’m not aware of?

Is that after submitting readings?

BarbaraofSeville · 28/05/2020 14:36

It's been warm so you wouldn't have had your heating on and longer days mean less lighting, maybe more salads and barbecues and fewer stews and roasts?

Estimated rather than actual readings?

BarbaraofSeville · 28/05/2020 14:39

Our electric has been reasonably consistent and as we have an electric shower, oven, hob and dishwasher, our electric use is quite high, at £45-50 per month.

But our gas bills for March, April and May were £82, £34 and £21 respectively. This will be just about entirely for heating and reflects the warmer weather over the last couple of months.

Out electricity went up and gas went down, overall total about the same. However this month was on readings, last month on estimates. I expected electricity to go up as I've had the lights on all day every day until the last week or so in the room I work in plus we are constantly charging gadgets, using TV and Xbox a lot more, hoovering more, you name it.

Crimples · 28/05/2020 14:46

Thanks, I called them(as I don’t find their app very straightforward in terms of what you’ve paid/what you owe- only me?)
seems like they estimated as the readings were a bit too late for this months statement. Good news is they aren’t wildly out so guess I just used less than I thought, happy days Smile

My Bulb monthly bill has been raised by £30 a month! There are four of us in the house, but I'm not sure why it has gone up by such an amount. I switched to them late last year because they were £30 cheaper.

mencken · 28/05/2020 15:02

gas prices have plummeted and even electricity is down quite a lot. Usage in money terms doesn't matter, do a comparison and see if you can do better. You almost certainly can.

Bulb linked to a pricing statement on twitter yesterday making it clear that they give electric-only users a kicking. Bills certainly should not be going up if usage is the same.

SweetPetrichor · 28/05/2020 15:54

As long as you've checked in and updated your meter readings then all should be good.

My DP works in customer service for an energy provider and you wouldn't believe the excuses people come up with, the fuss they make, the fact that they think they don't need to pay bills...I get angry and I only have to hear his side of the argument!

Zaphodsotherhead · 28/05/2020 16:51

I'm looking to switch so following this with interest.

mencken - when you say they give 'electric-only users a good kicking', why would that be? I live in a village where there's no gas, so we are forced to use either electricity or oil for our heating.

Crimples · 29/05/2020 10:22

I went with Bulb as they were cheaper initially but overall since then I don’t seem to be saving much, if any.
Suppose it’s time to switch again.
Has anyone tried that company that swap you automatically, look after my bills think it’s called?

I also have electric only village. Bulb keep going up!

mencken · 29/05/2020 11:03

no mains gas here, lovely cheap oil for heating and hot water, LPG for hob (also very cheap)

the problem is that dual fuel gets you discounts as electric only doesn't actually use very much - my bill is around £40 a month or less. So the cherry-pickers like bulb don't want us and up goes the price. I don't like them anyway, loads of greenwash and a head office in expensive London where they could work anywhere and provide employment where it is needed.

don't bother with the auto-swap lot, they must make their money somehow. Comparisons take five minutes.

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/05/2020 12:23

I had oil fired heating in my old house. Trouble is that oil prices can vary hugely, and it was v v expensive to heat five bedrooms with oil fired heating! Now I've just got electricity.
