Emma Mattress is not the magic answer I had hoped!!!

I have been waking up with aches and pains and after a bit of reading discovered that our 14 year old mattress might not be helping. I looked at all the top rated mattresses and the Emma mattress scored consistently high and they were doing a 50% nhs discount. Brilliant. I was so excited but it's worse. My back and hips are so stiff in the morning. It is one of these return after 100 nights mattresses but will it get better and what do I try next? Anyone with any mattress wisdom?

Hate, hate, hated ours. It ended up completely uneven and by the end I woke up in agony every morning. We had the stupid thing for a year and I’ve never been so glad to see the back of an object leaving my house. We’ve gone back to proper, decent pocket springs, and all is well again. We’re definitely a minority, though - most people seem to love theirs.

I endured cheap mattresses for years and then got a Vispring. They cost £££ but it's so comfortable. We spend so much of our lives in bed and as I got older, and started getting more aches and pains, I just needed to be comfortable.

Shmithecat2 · 28/05/2020 11:13

How long have you had it for? I love mine. It's not as soft as I've always liked BUT my aches and pains have gone, I used to get terrible hip, should and back pain, but no more!

I would not fall for the hype, we have tried a couple of these branded TV advertised mattresses we then spent £££ on a proper pocket sprung one and it is worth every penny

abigailsnan · 28/05/2020 11:18

I always think if they are so good why do they have to spend £££s advertising them on TV.

Eebs · 28/05/2020 16:51

Thanks all. Only had it a few days but I think maybe it is the hype. But hearing that some love it I might persevere for a week or so. In the meantime I will look at pocket sprung and forget the hype!!

I have a Simba hybrid (we paid extra for the top of range one) and it is amazing! The combo of springs and mem foam is just perfect - cured my aches overnight. However it has highlighted the issues with our divan base (15 years old) so we've also just sprung for a new bed which comes next week - I think that will make it even better.

Is your base in good condition? I'd really really recommend the Simba - I had no idea it would make so much difference.

We have an Emma and we love it. It took a few sore nights to get used to it but now it’s like sleeping suspended in mid air!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/05/2020 17:06

We spent loads on a new mattress, had to get a memory foam topper costing another £160 at the weekend as our backs were aching every morning.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/05/2020 17:10

God I love mine, so comfy.

Contact them and they will provide a free topper to soften or make it harder. Worth a try before you ditch it.

Vintagevixen · 28/05/2020 17:23

I got a pocket sprung mattress with a pillow top from Marks and Spencers last year, amazing. I love it, no more hip pain, like sleeping on a cloud. I did also get a new sprung Divan base at the same time which could have helped too.

I'm not big on memory foam - too hot for a menopausal body!

The man in the bed shop warned me off memory foam for this very reason!

Crunchymum · 28/05/2020 18:10

Love mine too, I have arthritis so am prone to aches and pains in general but sleep has improved immensely since the mattress arrived. We did get a completely new base as well (we went from double to super king size!!)

cheeseismydownfall · 28/05/2020 18:19

We bought a ViSpring mattress for ££££ from JL and honestly it is probably my most expensive ever mistake. I have never ached so much. Was delighted to flog in on ebay, and switched to a firm Ikea mattress with a decent mattress topper to give it a bit of give. I think mattresses are a very personal preference.

carriemathisonshandbag · 28/05/2020 18:32

I absolutely hated mine for the first 2 weeks , and was going to send it back, but it is now so comfortable that i wouldn't be without it

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 28/05/2020 18:35

We’ve had ours a fortnight and it seems fine to me. I’m not raving about it, but feels very comfortable at the moment.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 28/05/2020 18:48

I used to have a very firm orthopaedic mattress I sort of inherited and it was amazing. So thick and firm. Had it about ten years and it died eventually so I got an Emma. Hated it. It just wasn’t firm enough and it sort of sagged in places.

Have just bought an orthopaedic Silent Night one and crossing my fingers it’s good. Firmest of form mattresses, apparently.

Those saying you woke up in the morning with aching hips, what do you think caused that?

mollypur · 04/11/2020 18:58

I am looking to buy the Emma matress and work in the NHS has anybody got the 50% code or know where I can find it, Thanks
