London weighting....

I'm considering applying for a London based job with a national organisation - the advert indicates a salary scale for the role, and notes that 'London weighting' would apply.

In your experience, is there any way to anticipate what this might reasonably be without asking outright? Is it generally around X% or are there huge variations?

Role is in the voluntary / education sector if that's relevant.

When I was in the charity sector in London it was around 4,400, the MET police do 2,300, NHS is 4,300, I haven’t seen anything higher than 5,000

Should have added it’s not usually a percent of salary and is usually a fixed amount for all that qualify, depending on the organisation they may publish the figure on their website or annual accounts

I work for a university and my London Weighting is about £4000 ish or just shy of that. I don’t think it’s dependent on salary. Usually salaries are listed as £x inclusive of LW, so it will already be factored in. It would be an odd question to ask pre-offer though as you will (I’d hope) be told the salary.

Thanks, this is helpful. It hasn't been factored in already in the listed salary, that's why I'm asking! If I was to be successful, I could negotiate a salary within the advertised range - I just want to know what I would be adding on as an additional bump! Thanks very much.

NHS have percentages, although there is a minimum and maximum. It's 20% in inner London (15% outer London, 5% fringe). The inner London range is £4200 to £6500 approx. I believe teaching is similar in terms of percentages.
