When I was at school they told us that if you wanted to be an astronaut, you had to be able to go without a wee for 8 hours. So that was struck off my list of career choices.

Ideal for former teachers then Grin

managedmis · 27/05/2020 20:35

All that homework! No dossing in the yard, snogging boys for you, young lady

managedmis · 27/05/2020 20:35

Because how do you masturbate in a space suit?

^

We were obviously mates at school

FizzyPink · 27/05/2020 20:37

A nappy?! Is that the whole time or just while they’re travelling into space?
I’d be useless, I don’t like being trapped in anywhere and I wee pretty much every hour

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 27/05/2020 20:37

On all the rides at Disneyland I continually shout “You know I can’t do up and down”.

And I don’t fly. We have very few launch sites in Scotland so I’d probably need to fly.

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/05/2020 20:38

I get travel sick just thinking about it.

Dd however is space obsessed.

slipperywhensparticus · 27/05/2020 20:41

Mine is the helmet I need to be able to touch my face or my face does not exist when I'm under pressure I press my head to ground myself you cant do that in a spacesuit I would be constantly trying to thwack my head off the side to focus myself

TheRattleBag · 27/05/2020 20:45

When I was a child (ok possibly teenager) I was traumatised for life by the scene in 'You Only Live Twice' where a space capsule is swallowed by another space ship, and the astronaut on a space walk has his life line cut as it closes over it. It gave me the heebie-jeebies and I've never got over it!

PolloDePrimavera · 27/05/2020 20:49

Hmmm. I'd have been up for a career change but the weeing is too great an issue. Plus I only have C grade GCSE maths.

TheHighestSardine · 27/05/2020 20:49

@Tsubasa1

Because how do you masturbate in a space suit?
Should be able to hump against the crotch of the suit Grin
Flippinfurloughed · 27/05/2020 20:50

God my stomach is in knots just watching this! Are they sat upright or on their backs? I can’t tell from the video and I missed the start.

bluefoxmug · 27/05/2020 20:50

I'm very good at rpairing things with duct tape Grin

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 27/05/2020 20:51

Because I wouldn't be able to cope in the suit. I struggle to wear high legged boots or zip is a jacket because I feel like I'm trapped.

youresodesperatetobedifferent · 27/05/2020 20:51

When will we get some action? Have I missed it?

bluefoxmug · 27/05/2020 20:52

they are sitting in seats moulded to their bodies.

they are sitting like a baby in a buggaboo

OP posts:
Flippinfurloughed · 27/05/2020 20:54

Ooh thank you, I can visualise that much better now! I keep holding my breathe in anticipation of them taking off, which is weird given they don’t need to hold their breath, and I’m not even there. I’d clearly be a crap astronaut!

TheHighestSardine · 27/05/2020 20:55

Check the live stream Desparate, 39 minutes to launch.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 27/05/2020 20:56

Because Challenger

Guacamole · 27/05/2020 20:57

So nervous watching this. Apparently if it clear you’ll be able to see it approx 15 mins after launch fly over uk... apparently you need to look south west.

Graffitiqueen · 27/05/2020 21:01

In another life I'd love to be an astronaut. I studied aerospace engineering at uni. In reality I'm totally risk averse and couldn't risk leaving my children without a mother. Wish I it was just like getting on a plane.

bluefoxmug · 27/05/2020 21:05

and they are in quarantine for a few months before launch.
that's a looong time away from families

OP posts:
bluefoxmug · 27/05/2020 21:06

that's pretty cool graffiti

White knuckle rides at theme parks are beyond at the top end of my comfort zone. Sitting on top of what is effectively a massive bomb? Er, no thanks. Incredibly brave people - I'll be watching and keeping fingers crossed for success.

notimagain · 27/05/2020 21:14

they are in quarantine for a few months before launch.

They only went into quarantine about two weeks ago..

www.space.com/spacex-crew-dragon-astronauts-demo-2-quarantine.html

The first few crews who came back from the Moon were in quarantine for 2 or 3 weeks after arrival back on Earth.

notimagain · 27/05/2020 21:15

..oh dear , weather not sounding good ..
