The Michael Mosley Book. Can I ask who has done this? I have bought the book and am ready to start Friday (need payday for shopping). I am addicted to sugar no question about it! And it's killing me.
I have 4 stone to lose. Does anyone want to join me? We can do a weekly weigh in, discuss recipes and food ideas and generally support each other.

Here and ready for who wants to join me !!

Lots of people on here have and there is some great support.

I have done it twice which is hugely telling - I quickly dropped weight (1.5 stone each time roughly) but it came straight back on because I didn't carry the principles on. I felt good on it at the time but didn't have the right mindset at all and the calories are so low that it's easy to go ott as a 'reward' at the end.

Hmm thank you. I'll have to cross the maintaining bridge when I get to it I suppose but for now I'm miles away from that. I've let myself get so fat I don't think I will ever deserve a food reward again

I'll go over onto the weight loss boards and see if anyone wants to start with me. I've posted here because I've seen a few weight posts recently and thought people may have wanted to join.

I did it in 2018 and lost 3 stone. I've maintained that since by doing the 5 2 split recommended in the book. It's hard to start with but I quickly found that it's about mindset and after the first week I was never hungry.

I also realised how much I rewarded myself with food so it has helped me change my relationship with food for the better.

Drink loads of water, I had about 2.5l every day as you take in much less fluid when restricting calories like that and constipation can be an issue if you're not careful. Good luck

I’ve done it and lost 2st 9lbs over a period of 9 months, I’m around 10st 7lbs now. You do need a lot of willpower to start with, but if you stick with it you will lose weight. I was also at risk of type 2 diabetes if I didn’t do something about my sugar levels and weight.

The thing I noticed after a fortnight was how alert I was on waking, none of the brain fug I used to have, and as I lost the weight I felt better and had more energy, and I now no longer snore!

Once you are eating less sugar your taste in food changes, and you find that things you used to find a bit sour are actually palatable, and some things are now too sweet. This is actually very helpful to keep you from eating things you shouldn’t. I’m 62 on Sunday, and I feel better than I have in years.

Good luck!

Thank you - both of you. I need to know this is possible and you both sound like you had the strength of mind to go for it. I am in awe of you both.

Great to hear you are giving it a go. Do be prepared to feel a bit despondent at times, especially if it seems as though you aren’t losing any weight. I had a fortnight where I stayed the same, and the following week dropped 4lbs. It’s a way of life, and you do learn how to adapt recipes that you like, e.g I like risotto, but substitute the rice for bulgur wheat which looks pretty similar. You can look forward to lovely full fat food instead of diet low fat versions which are filled with sugar to make them taste of something.

mencken · 28/05/2020 12:37

no need to buy a book for that last fact! Never eat diet or low fat versions of stuff, they are indeed full of sugar to make taste. Eat less of the real thing.

general principle - if it is advertised, it is crap.
