What do you keep in your car for an emergency?

I have been meaning to get around to doing this for a while, and now is as good a time as any. So far, I am thinking:

water
blankets
cereal bar type snacks/ chocolate etc
first aid kit
disposable urinals
torch
wet wipes/tissues
Part of me thinks summer car kit, should be different to winter, but then things like finger warmers could just be left in the car. I'm thinking of scenarios from being stuck on the motorway for hours (as has happened a few times to people where I live near the M5) or being stuck for a while down a lane waiting for the breakdown service, as happened to me last year.

Any other ideas?

High viz vest
Emergency triangle
Wind up torch
Jump leads (with instructions)
First aid kit
Tube to go over the tyre spanner to give extra leverage

My car came with a first aid kit. I always have a usb phone charger, bottle of water, de-icer and scraper, and my work hivis lives in the boot.

The usual safety stuff, plus there is always a corkscrew in the glovebox.

I have received much kudos for being able to produce one at various picnics / gatherings / camps.

Water
Bug spray
Hand sanitiser
Mask
First aid kit
Change
Tissues
Bonine or Dramamine
Nail file for broken nail emergencies :-)
Cereal bar

I always have a phone charger in my handbag.

In winter I add a brush/scraper for snow, windscreen wash, and a blanket. I did carry a collapsible shovel but in 10+ Maine winters I didn’t use it so I stopped.

Lip salve, water and a snack. I'm a passenger, these are my emergency-if-I-haven't-got-it-I'll-die items. My partner, thankfully, has considered other more generally useful items, but he also deeply respects my need for these things and tops them up when provisions are low.

A road atlas in case I have no access to my phone or satnav.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 27/05/2020 14:32

A torch thing with a whistle, compass, window smasher and seatbelt blade. 1st aid kit.

allfacepalmedout · 27/05/2020 14:40

All year round - jump leads, picnic blanket, shopping bags, road atlas, Rennies, loose change for car parks and box of tissues. In the winter, add umbrella, ice scraper, scarf, gloves, random extra coat and if it looks like snow - a shovel.

The car usually has a random collection of oddities in it anyway - cardboard box, raffle ticket books, notepads, gardening tools and the like.

I always have a load of poo bags for the dog dog. They are incredibly versatile:

Sick bag
Emergency wee bag
Rubbish bag

Apart from that a first aid kit, a driving in france pack, I think it has high vis, a triangle and possibly some other things in there.

We always take water bottles with us but don't keep them in the car.

My "car coat" has been useful a few times. I had a flat tyre on the way to work on a March day that was just warm enough not to be worth lugging around school all day, but not warm enough to stand in a layby for 30 mins at 8am. Also used when I got caught with a flat battery while it was slushy.

Sweets
Knickers
A fleece
Engine oil
