Is this common

Apparently the lab at the hospital were unable to test one of my blood samples and apparently said it was because it wouldn’t clot?

Yes, lab error is really common.

(and cynic that I am it's nearly always code for 'we dropped it')

They have to add reagents to blood samples to make the tests work. Sometimes they make mistakes. Asking for another sample because something's up in the lab is not a way to foreshadow a result

I don’t know if it common but I’ve had it in the past.

I also think it’s code for ‘we dropped it’ because I like to think we all make mistakes and I like the idea of it being an in-house code whenever it happens.

I've never rejected a sample due to inability to clot. What's the test for?

@nether in 10 years I've dropping a sample once and phoned the GP myself being hugely apologetic and I asked him to pass my apology onto the patient. Myself or anyone I've worked with would never lie about sample rejection.

I have rejected plenty for having already been clotted. I have to give out the correct result, otherwise doing the test is pointless. Clotted samples have incorrect platelets, Hb and clotting studies results.

Thank you everyone. Maybe she meant it was clotted? I’m not sure which blood test it was I had three different tests including a full blood count Is it likely that it was the full blood count that clotted?

Yes Full blood count can be. Sometimes it's just happens, can be the way it's taken or if you were difficult to blood.
