Best budget mattress

I'm looking for a new mattress - needs to be under £300 for a double. Any recommendations?! So annoying that I can't go and try any right now but I'm on an air bed so do need to order something soon!

Ikea! Hovag is good but this one probably has the edge

We need a new divan base and mattress. It’s so hard without being able to try them.

Budget mattress and best mattress don't go hand in hand. This is something that you will sleep on every night and it supports your body as you rest. Don't buy cheap or you will regret it. The IKEA ones are brilliant but they only fit IKEA beds.

I don't have a huge amount to spend (starting from scratch after leaving my partner). So I am looking for the best one my money can stretch to right now.

Following with interest. Bought one for 100quid 3 years ago and it's soo uncomfortable.

Sunshinegirl82 · 26/05/2020 22:25

Ikea do standard U.K. sizes now so no need for Ikea beds.

GiantKitten · 26/05/2020 22:38

I’ve had this one 3 years and it’s great, really comfortable.

This is a fantastic price too, just under £300 - it’s over £400 on most of the websites I looked at.

Delivery might be extra though - it looks to be priced just under (by 11p Hmm) the minimum thing mentioned at the bottom

Silentnight Sofia 1200

GiantKitten · 26/05/2020 22:42

Oh it might be free - it says mattresses are, the minimum must be for bed frames etc.

So looks like free next day 2-man delivery, to room of choice. (Some do charge more if you want it upstairs)(& they are buggers to move, even with handles Grin)

Definitely the ikea hovag as mentioned by a pp. Which? rate it v highly. I've the king and it's so so comfy yet firm.

GiantKitten · 27/05/2020 00:04

The Sofia was a Which Best Buy when I got it, although under a different name. (In fact it still is, I just checked!)

Is that your reply delilah? Because everyone can just find extra money to get the best.
What a patronising, snobbish reply.

Ikea Hamarvik! So so comfy. They do medium and firm. Mine is medium cos I like a fairly springy mattress. Great value too.

itsgood2talk · 27/05/2020 00:50

I the same as you had a small budget and I found the Costco ones to be great. Really good value for money. And they deliver

wheresmolly · 27/05/2020 08:44

Thanks to most of you for all the helpful suggestions! GrinI am veering towards an Ikea one. Now just need to decide on the actual base. And don't get me started on kettles, toasters and microwaves... Confused

I bought one a couple of years ago for the spare bed from John Lewis. A Silent night one. About £150.

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/05/2020 09:04

We have a Hemnes bed for my DS and we have a malm, both are fine! The hemnes looks nicer I think but we wanted the bed head storage of the malm in our room so we could fit a super king in!

Lampan · 27/05/2020 12:25

If you get an Ikea base with slats, the most expensive slats are worth it! Pain to assemble but worth the extra cost.

hotchocdrinker · 27/05/2020 12:45

Another vote for the Ikea Hamarvik. It's the same prices as John Lewis' basic double mattress but the Ikea one is far far better, and really very comfortable.
