Fed up with the hypocrisy

Yes, we are pretty much all annoyed with Dominic Cummings, his journey to Durham and his day trip to Barnard Castle.

However, I am getting sick of the hypocrisy now of people being up in arms about it and then saying that they are just going to flout the rules now too. You can do one or the other, but not both!

Agree

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 13:30

Well no, they're just exercising their common sense and personal judgment in light of their own tricky circumstances, which apparently people were very stupid and clearly bad parents, not to have known that they could, or should do so.

toomanyplants · 26/05/2020 13:35

@MummaGiles totally agree with you
"How dare he!! Well I'm going to visit my parents tomorrow"
Erm....😕

Deelish75 · 26/05/2020 13:45

Agreed.

They think they’re sticking two fingers up to Cummings and the government.

They’re not, they’re sticking two fingers up at the clinically vulnerable.

SunshineSmellsLikeSummer · 26/05/2020 13:47

I watched the BBC news this morning.

It was quite clearly stated that people were free to use their own judgement and that that is what the government expected us to do all along and that, if we had chosen not to, that was our own choice.

🤷🏻‍♀️

noego · 26/05/2020 14:45

The journo's, newscasters and politicians that are calling for DC's resignation and prolonging the story seem to have nice neat haircuts. Beth Rigby of Sky hasn't got a hair out of place for example. Other news anchors are showing no signs of roots coming through and are perfectly presentable.
Where are they getting their hair done?
Have they broken lockdown rules?

Hypocrisy is rife that's for sure.

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 15:06

"People in England could be allowed to socialise in larger groups in gardens or parks, Michael Gove has confirmed, but visiting family and friends indoors still appears some way off, my colleague Rowena Mason reports." (Guardian today)

As far as I'm concerned, I will no longer take what Cummings and his lapdog BJ say into very much account, I will exercise my own judgment as to level of risk acceptable to me, and what I will do to mitigate it, as apparently was the case all along.

(I'm sure the police are somewhat bewildered as to what they were supposed to be enforcing, and why they were given powers of enforcement, such as stopping people and directing them to go home, fining them, or even arresting them, given that this is now what was supposed to be the situation.)

At this point, what faith are you supposed to have in 'the science' that they say they are following - without publishing the science, or even the scientists? What faith do you have in the numbers they say represent the very important statistics are true and accurate, rather than tweaked, or even just made up, to manipulate the herd, sorry, I mean the public, to do what you want them to do?

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist. This is the closest I've ever been to being one. But I don't think these morons could lie straight in bed. Actually, to be fair, Mr Cummingsandgoings did not lie, he outright said he completely flouted the lock down rules numerous times and for increasingly ridiculous reasons - and basically said, so fucking what?

So, I guess, so fucking what?

Quite.

Well they could have read the official guidance on gov.uk rather than believing what the media told them.

The media were terrible with their mis-reporting - some of their reporters/newsreaders had clearly not read what was pretty clearly written on the gov.uk website before broadcasting.

The key workers/essential workers misreporting was absolutely diabolical and did untold harm.

Kazzyhoward · 26/05/2020 15:18

As police officers, perhaps they should have read and made sure they understood the laws and guidance enacted by the Govt rather than making up their own rules as they went along.

"And that’s why we have been asking people to stay at home during this pandemic.

And though huge numbers are complying - and I thank you all - the time has now come for us all to do more.

From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home.

Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.

That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;
any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
That’s all - these are the only reasons you should leave your home.

You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say No.

You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home.

You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine - and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.

If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings."

Could anyone point out to me the fine print saying we should exercise our own judgment?

GinnyStrupac · 26/05/2020 15:22

I think they are easing lockdown some more in order to take the focus and heat off Cummings and Johnson, and to 'please the masses' - the equivalent of throwing a dog a bone to distract it - rather than it being wise to do so scientifically at this time.

EstherEliza · 26/05/2020 15:23

The media were terrible with their mis-reporting - some of their reporters/newsreaders had clearly not read what was pretty clearly written on the gov.uk website before broadcasting.

Yep. This is true. I stopped reading the papers for guidance as it was generally bollocks and just went straight to the government website. I did think at the time that the media's inability to report the actual facts was really irresponsible and misleading.

thenamesarealltaken · 26/05/2020 15:27

I agree. I've asked the flouters I know what they think of what DC said, and only one said they understood, the rest were talking like they'd never flouted lockdown rules.

CoachBombay · 26/05/2020 15:34

Yes!

You swear he'd knocked your gran off her bike and then reversed over her the amount of overreaction and hysterical irrationally angry people. To be honest I find the incandescent with rage people hilarious.

The cries of

I stayed in my house getting only one deliver a week for 10 weeks and have gazed at the sky through my double glazing, but now I'm off to hug my elderly grandparents because what's the point are just stupid....I can't help but snort and say to myself "you silly mare, why did you do that, nobody asked you to become imprisoned in your home, they asked you to stay home if possible, work from home, if possible" 😂

Now the realisation has set in, there's no Covid-19 misery medal on its way in the post, and people don't really care if you went for two walks a day or not, so they've made their own misery for nothing 😂

mbosnz · 26/05/2020 15:48

I would like for DC or his lackey BJ to say, hand on heart, that they would have thought all the actions DC took were entirely acceptable if say, Keir Starmer had taken them in the exact same set of circumstances. I don't think even they could manage to choke that lie out.

thebabessavedme · 26/05/2020 16:22

I keep thinking that while DC was coming up with his excuses for doing just as he wished and his 'eyetest drive' to a beauty spot which happens to have happened on his wifes birthday', that there is a mother who now has to live with the fact that her teenage son died without her by his side, and was quickly buried without his family able to be there, all because she was stupid enough to think that she should follow the rules rather than do something 'reasonable in unique circumstances' frankly, if I was her I would feel murderous.

I think that the phrase 'Lions led by Donkeys' is totally apt.

thebabessavedme · 26/05/2020 16:25

and no, I'm no 'flouter' but I certainly be doing my own version of lockdown now.

Needallthesleep · 26/05/2020 16:36

Agreed.

And the ones who flouted the rules themselves who are up in arms about DC.
