Hunting for the comfiest contact lenses ever....impossible task?

I've had contacts for over 20 years, although I wear them rarely now - only when I go 'out out' - as I find them so uncomfortable. I always have.

What are your holy grail comfy moisturising lenses? Hit me!

I've been really pleased with daysoft

allmycats · 26/05/2020 14:01

Johnson and Johnson have a very eye water content, our client's like them a lot, they are expensive but you get what you pay for. If Daysoft suit you, all well and good, but they are cheap, and I will leave to try both. Perhaps when this virus a,lows you to see your optician you should ask them to get you some trial lenses from a variety of brands so that you can compare

MulticolourMophead · 26/05/2020 14:37

I'd agree with getting lenses with a higher water content. I'm due an optician's appointment and will be looking at seeing whether there's an upgrade for my lenses. I went to Specsavers for lenses before, but I've now used my nearest Asda for glasses, so will be asking about lenses there.

I do, however, buy solutions from an online retailer, as theirs is the most comfortable solution. Difficult to explain, but it feels better to me.

Dailies total 1.

I have very dry eyes and other contacts would leave me wanting to claw my eyes out by about 6 hours of wear. These are so comfortable I often forget I even have them in! Not cheap but SO worth it.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 26/05/2020 15:30

I wore bog standard Specsavers contact lenses for 20 years with no problems, my astigmatism then took a nose dive and severely increased... contact lenses suddenly became incredibly uncomfortable and hard to fit. It took months to find one that didn't make me want to claw my eyes out.

I've found ACUVUE moist dallies are the ones I can cope with and can comfortably wear for a few hours/ night out but working at a computer in them/ wear all day is a no go still.... I'd love to find something I could wear more often but I think I've exhausted ever option!

Alocasia · 26/05/2020 15:32

I am an optician and based on feedback from my patients, Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Oasys are the best by a long way. They are also breathable so better for your eyes than some other lenses on the market. I work with lots of different brands and lenses and these are the best as far as I’m concerned (no I’m not on commission either!)

Eeyoresstickhouse · 26/05/2020 15:36

I have very dry eyes and trueye lenses were a game changed. Not cheap but worth it.

Another vote for Dailies Total 1! They are really great and the first daily lens I can wear all day, feeling totally comfortable the whole time.

Bellabelles · 26/05/2020 17:57

Acuvue oasys are the most comfortable I’ve used. - I used the ones you change every couple of weeks and not the dailies but they seem to hold up well

CourtneyLurve · 26/05/2020 18:00

Dailies Total 1. You'll forget you're wearing any at all. So, so comfy.

Pineapplemonkey · 26/05/2020 18:09

I’ve been wearing Accuvue Oasys for years, eyes never dry out and very comfortable. Mine are the fortnightly torics though. Have been wearing my glasses since lockdown however, seems pointless to wear contacts at home

Alocasia · 26/05/2020 21:35

@Eeyoresstickhouse TruEye are being discontinued unfortunately!

underneaththeash · 26/05/2020 22:33

Optometrist here - it varies, fit depends on your lid tightness, corneal diameter and shape, you may have a bit of blepharitis which is causing dryness.

Although, I’d give daysoft a miss, I suspect that’s one of their employees advertising.....

Go and see your optician and they’ll fit the lens to your eye and give you a few samples to try. You can ask for samples of a couple of different types to try if you like. We’ll be open again in a couple of weeks.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 27/05/2020 07:30

@Alocasia what???? Oh that doesn't help me! I will be on the hunt for new lenses then!

LifeAfterBreastCancer · 27/05/2020 07:33

I love Waldo's Vitamin Lenses. They're so comfortable.

I tried Daysoft and my eyes literally repelled them. I've never tried anything so uncomfortable in my life. Shame, they were cheap but totally unwearable.

Somanysocks · 27/05/2020 08:26

I have just started using 1 day acuvue moist and they're really comfortable, though not cheap.

Not been wearing them lately though in case I get an eye infection.

Foobydoo · 27/05/2020 08:33

Dailies total 1 .
I only wear occasionally and I forget they are in sometimes as you dont get the dry feeling.
They are also very easy to get out after a days wear. I find other brands stick.

SallyOMalley · 27/05/2020 08:42

Oh how I wish I could still wear contact lenses! I wore them for 15 years without problem and then seemed to develop an allergy to the all in one solution (this was 15 years ago before dailies were more affordable). Since then I've tried so many brands on and off but my tolerance has decreased to the point that they're only in for minutes before I want to claw my eyes out . I've given up!

Is there a correlation between astigmatism and uncomfortable lenses? My astigmatism is only mild, though, and I could get away with just standard lenses .

Branbleberries · 27/05/2020 08:48

I'm still on the hunt for comfy lenses!! I find that all the solutions end up irritating my eyes, even the non-preservative ones.

but I can't seem to find daily ones in my prescription - they are getting close, but not close enough (quite short sighted, like -7.something, and astigmatism of -2.something, and the biggest issues, oblique axes for the astigmatism, like 50 degrees, which falls just in the range that gets left out, once you get to higher corrections). Every time I think I've found some, I read the details, and find that they don't do that combination. I keep hoping that new ones will come out soon, as they do seem to be getting better at making cheaper toric lenses.

But in the meantime, I too am stuck with either glasses, or uncomfortable lenses/allergies.

Wow, so many responses! Thanks everyone - I posted yesterday and then didn't get time to come back online. Lots of information to go through here - much appreciated! Smile

I have tried Dailies Total 1 and still get very sore dry eyes with them Sad

I don't think I am cut out for lenses to be honest, but I don't like wearing specs when I go out so I suffer through blurry uncomfy eyes for the sake of vanity! I have astigmatism too, which makes it harder to get the right fit. I think I need to wait until the opticians open back up and go in for another test/fitting etc.

I’ve worn Acuvue Trueye, Dailies Total 1 and Acuvue Oasys (all dailies) over the last 8 years.

Acuvue Oasys are the most moisturising of the three. My eyes did dry out with the Dailies Total 1. The Oasys are so comfortable by comparison - apparently every time you blink, it releases more moisture from the lens.
