Any personal trainers out there?

Have been considering training as a PT lately (having been helped immensely by my PT to get really fit and healthy)- just wondered if any Mumsnetters do this for a living? I live in a pretty affluent area with quite good demand for that kind of service and good PTs seem to be kept busy (have tried to sign up with several in the past who were too busy to take me on), even those who only work school hours. If you’re a PT would you recommend it?

I’m it a p/t but I’d have been taking advantage of all the online fitness that the celebs have been doing during lockdown which will sure to dissapear once we get back to normal. I’d love a virtual p/t!

I'm just finishing training as a PT, I've done it online with weekend workshops, it's taken me nearly a year, trying to fit it round work, kids and life! I can't wait to get started though, my final assessment was cancelled due to Covid 2 weeks before I was due to take it, as soon as the gyms reopen I'll be able to take it, right pain in the bum! It cost about £3k and is hard work but I'm hoping it'll be worth it!

Hi @Butternutsqoosh, do you mind if I ask what course you took? Are you planning on working independently from day 1 or within a gym?

I’ve done the PT training as a ‘side hustle’. I didn’t end up doing much with it (yet!) but depending on the area you live in it might be worth specialising in pre and post natal? Lots of new mums want to throw money at getting back in shape (me included!)

Panicbuying · 25/05/2020 15:50

Hi @Needallthesleep thanks, was that because you haven’t had time to focus on it or because it’s been hard to drum up business? Yes post natal was something I’ve been thinking about focusing on

I have a full time job anyway, and am pregnant with my second so shattered! I imagine the business where I am would be easy to come by though. I see it as a bit of an investment in something I could always do in the future if/when I have a bit more time.

Im the same as the person above, it took me a year to qualify. The annoying bit is all the anatomy!

@Panicbuying yes I plan to go on my own not within a gym, after I passed my level 2 I I started circuit classes which I loved but obvs can't do that at the moment! I'm taking the level 4 medical referral course so I can train people referred by their go who have diabetes, had strokes, are obese etc and would like to be able to train kids too, each different group of people require an extra qualification, I love to keep my brain going so I don't mind doing the studying, I really enjoyed the nutrition and weight management part of the level 3 course so hope to take that to level 4 too Smile
