Ways to pass the time

Hello all. I'd love some good pass time ideas for MIL who will be doing a lot of waiting for when FIL goes in for his cancer treatment.

She can't go in with him obvs and cant really leave the hospital grounds, so will be basically in her car for hours a day every day for weeks.

Shes got a kindle so is set up for that. And she's got a few podcasts already that she listens to.

Shes quite in to her gardening and arts and culture. Also history and Italian culture.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? Much appreciated!!

I use Readly which has lots of magazines for 7.99 per month.

I find excellent value for money and a great time waster. I hope your FIL responds well to treatment.

Could she go for walks around the hospital grounds - and get headphone for listening to podcasts as she walks? She could track her walks on Map my Run to see how far she has walked.

Thanks @fiveshelties that sounds good! I'll certainly recommend that one!

Thanks @supersleepy I think she plans to do that a bit too, just so difficult at the mo as they are shielding so I think she's doing everything she can to reduce risk.

Music podcasts whilst walking? This classical life by Jess Gillam is great. Embroidery, paper piece patch work quilt ( handsewing is very therapeutic)

Thanks for the suggestions Horsey but I'm not sure they are totally up her street - no offence intended!
My mum would definitely be interested in the classical podcast though so I'll suggest it to her!

She could take up mindfulness. Would help during this stressful time. Download the calm app. There's some great meditations and stories.
What about adult colouring books? My mum's not a colouring-in type of woman Grin but she's shielding and is loving colouring-in mandala's at the moment.

Is she a knitter or crocheter or something crafty? Or Zentangling - mindful doodling basically!

so will be basically in her car for hours a day every day for weeks.

Is this going to be practical as it gets hotter? The inside of a parked car can get very hot. What if she falls asleep inside? Will she have enough drinks to keep hydrated? Toilets?

Audible?

WinWinnieTheWay · 24/05/2020 23:24

Puzzles.

Maybe she could keep a journal?

Suduko/word search/crossword books.
Taking time when at home to make nice things to take in the car for her meals, rather than sandwiches.
Would she write letters to family/friends? She might be used to Skype/texts these days, but it might be something to pass the time.

Jigsaws (for at home!).
