If you don't want bees, as a pp mentioned steer clear of rosemary and chives. The also love foxgloves, lavender and hawthorn blossom. My garden's alive with bees just now. Never been troubled by them, but as far as I know none of us has any bee allergies or phobias. Bastard wasps are another matter.

Lardlizard · 24/05/2020 00:49

Thanks for the tips, tbh I’m not a fan of moths either 🙊

Be careful of jasmine, it smells very strong and if you are like me it will make you feel sick.

Honeysuckle is less powerful. I have seen no bees on the neighbours jasmine. Wisteria is beautiful, but it will take over the garden, you would need a large space for it and a lot of time keeping it to a reasonable size.

Clematis is pretty.

We have both and its no bother. The Boston ivy on the boundary wall is another matter. When the ivy is flowering in late summer the whole wall is a-buzz and it’s nerve-wracking putting the bins out.

I love Jasmine but I find it hard to grow it well and not have it turn into a scabby flimsy weakling

sashh · 24/05/2020 05:52

I have honeysuckle and I have not noticed a large number of insects. I do have a 'wild patch' about 2m square so I think that might attract things. I do seem to get a lot of butterflies though.

HeyBlaby · 24/05/2020 05:56

Have many plants that do attract bees (chosen for this reason) but also have 2 jasmine which have spread a lot and they don't seem to attract them.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 24/05/2020 06:08

We have honeysuckle and no swarms of bees around it

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 24/05/2020 06:10

Genuine question - if you are into gardening. Why don’t you want bees and moths in your garden? They are useful (and pretty!)

Lardlizard · 24/05/2020 07:13

I just not like them, although of course understand how important bees are

The whole point of plants is to attract wildlife. That's what causes the wow factor - how they do it.

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2020 07:57

You could try palms? Anything that doesn’t flower pretty much will not attract bees.

Mydoglicksplates · 24/05/2020 08:00

Jasmine is a horrid invasive plant that grows like wildfire and only flowers when it feels like it, it spreads and sprouts and I hate it.

SinglePringle · 24/05/2020 08:08

Plant to attract the bees! I love seeing them bumbling about. They’re currently loving my raspberry bushes.

Wasps, however, can do one. Evil shits.

Lardlizard · 24/05/2020 09:16

Yes I do like palms was just after something big as I’m impatient
My idea of gardening is just chuck money at it, few times a year and if it grows great !
Not very skilful i know
