How old was your DC when they were able to make a cup of tea?

DC1 is 8 and although pretty independent with making sandwiches, getting drinks and breakfast etc is not quite ready to do this yet. Just wondered how old others DC's were.

I remember it being a brownie badge can't think how old I was it was so long ago Grin

With watching ds 2 age 7 1/2 can make tea and is pretty good. Ds 1 was Older around 9 due to fine motor skill issues - his grip is pretty poor.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/05/2020 11:22

Probably about that age.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2020 11:23

Yeah, around 8.

SnugglySnerd · 23/05/2020 11:24

Mine are too little but I cannot wait until they are big enough to make me a brew Grin

I'd say around 8-9, a joyous day indeed, only topped by them turning 18 and being able to be sent to the shops for wine!!!

Mummyshark2018 · 23/05/2020 11:32

6-7 pretty responsible though.

Older DS was 7 almost 8, younger DS was 9, as he was smaller and not as strong, I worried about the weight of the kettle.

Now younger DS is 11 and has started to make me a cup of tea every day unprompted. He says he is going to try and do it every day for at least a year Grin I doubt he will but enjoying it for now.

Unsupervised from 7. Supervised since much earlier than that

I taught both of mine at 7..., the age I was when I got my tea making badge at Brownies.

Did have to suffer lukewarm coffee for years, but yeah, so good. Now looking forward to teaching my eldest to drive this year, so she can pick me up from parties / nights out. Smile

Oooh I love a brew. My DD is 8 and I haven't even considered allowing her to make tea. She's quite independent in other areas, makes her own juice etc but I've kept her away from the kettle due to the temperature. Am I being over-protective?

She's very money motivated at the moment and would happily make me loads of cuppas each day for 5p each!

God I remember that badge at brownies. I wonder if the boys had one (rhetorical question)? Wasn’t it called “service” or something like that? Even at the time I remember thinking it was a pretty low bar for a badge.

Picklypickles · 23/05/2020 11:38

I'm not sure if mine ever will, nobody drinks tea or coffee in this house!

  1. Very useful when they wanted to get me up on Christmas morning so they could open presents.
