What do you have on your watchlist...that you never actually get around to watching and why?

I'm a nightmare for this!

It's a combination of reasons for me

1 I seem to have reached a stage in life where I cba learning "new" information very often it feels like too much effort so I often will opt to watch series/films I am already familiar with and so know I will like even if I wasn't a loyal watcher when it was first out (often this applies to shows that were out when dd was a baby and I couldn't keep up)

2 I seem to often finish a "binge watch" session late at night when I'm knackered and the above applies even more!

3 the titles I add that I'm not familiar with are sometimes ones that I've been seduced by a trailer or the actors selling it on a chat show

4 sometimes they are titles I feel I "should" like - this mostly applies to Oscar/Emmy winning "worthy" titles or ones about "social issues" which are applicable to other series/films I've enjoyed in the past but I do find this type of subject draining at times and if I'm in escapist mood I don't feel like watching these

But I started this thread in hopes of being persuaded to try and likely enjoy the titles I "avoid"

They include:

Little fires everywhere - loved the trailer and I LOVE both reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington so really this should be right up my street

Damages - I started watching this on "normal" tv when it was first out but couldn't keep up due to circumstances at the time. I enjoyed it but remember it as quite hard to follow and needing a good level of concentration

Blood ties, hunted, justified, the marvellous mrs Maisel, the romanoffs, leverage, Friday night lights, arrow, the bold type, outlander, community,... all titles that appeal to me in some way but have sat on my list so long due to point 1

Am I alone? Can I help you learn to love a show or film you've been wavering on?

I feel a bit like now isn’t the time for new shows with complex plots. I’m watching a lot of random documentaries, day in the life of the tube, that sort of thing. Things I don’t have to remember between episodes.

The book of Little Fires, Everywhere was brilliant, if that helps.

Books always better than filmed version I'm out of the habit of reading and really want to get back to it. It's the concentration I struggle with.

I find documentaries generally irritating unless it's a subject I'm really interested in, mainly serial killers, history or food especially food history!

I'm thinking I'll go to desperate housewives next as although I watched it first time around, I enjoyed it but haven't watched it since and so have forgotten how the cliffhangers were resolved.

I've also got new seasons of Bosch, this is us, how to get away with murder, the good place and stranger things to watch but as my memory/concentration is crap these days I shall probably need to watch them front the beginning again so I know what's going on.

I have had some Netflix recommendations. Money Heist being one but I don't think I can apply myself to concentrating at the moment.

DH has been watching Tiger King but I zoned out after half an hour.

That said I binge watched Normal People which was 12 half an hour episodes that was quite good for my attention span.

HeadSpin5 · 23/05/2020 20:53

I know exactly what you mean and could’ve written this! If it helps, Community is v easy watching- funny but short episodes so when you binge, it’s easier to stop!

Graphista · 23/05/2020 22:08

I'm always getting recommendations, usually well meaning but the ones I get from people in real life tend not to take into account my tastes.

Better on here where people as they don't THINK they know me go off my guidance which tends to lead to recommendations I do actually like.

I'm really not fussed about stopping a binge Grin it's more difficulty finding something I WANT to binge.

I tried starting x files last night (something I hadn't been able to follow properly when it was first on as then husband wasn't a fan of my "weird paranormal mind bendy shit" that I like to watch - I'm a sci fi and horror fan when it comes to film and even action I tended to prefer more violent than he could stomach - and he was army!) but when I had been able to catch the occasional episode I had enjoyed and been fascinated by it, but I couldn't get into it last night.

I do think it depends the frame of mind you're in what you'll enjoy at a particular time.

Eg I don't mind a bit of well made sitcom, huge fan of friends but I struggle to binge watch it as I find it lacks the depth and character development there is in drama. It's more something I'll have on in the background. The good place being a rare exception as it's quite thought provoking.

But I like dramas that have some humour/lighter moments, probably as I tend to preferring sarcastic/ironic humour - white collar, person of interest, suits, death in paradise, ashes to ashes, charmed, scandal, bones, the big c, desperate housewives, madam secretary, downton abbey, heroes...

House is a perfect example of my taste - pathos, heart, sardonic humour, mysteries to solve as puzzles with clues...

I wonder if you would like Criminal Minds based on that list?

Graphista · 24/05/2020 15:33

Just binge watched criminal minds finished about 2 weeks ago but yes you seem to get my taste
