Why is MN so quiet?

Usually threads are moving so fast there's a brand new page of posts every time you look.

I can't work out whether it's because people don't have anything to talk about or if everyone's moved over to that new forum?

I hadn't noticed it being particularly quiet on here. Still plenty of strident opinions!

@reallythislong

Good point, the site looks dated and may not appeal to the youngsters.

However the big think mumsnet has going for it is its “back catalogue” of threads. Mumsnet (and moneysavingexpert) often come up when I’m googling for stuff.

happilybemused · 22/05/2020 06:04

Because you get a response such as 'there are lots of threads about this already. Stop wasting my time'

Because we've all got so much on at the moment. 🙄

I joined after becoming mum & think I was looking for bf/sleeping advice & found it very useful. Just musing whether youngsters will still do this as I notice my younger siblings look for travel advice, restaurant recommendations on instagram.

I think there is a lot of good information on here & quite like the mixed experiences & opinions. However I do sometimes feel many posters are older then me (in my 30s so could be wrong).

Hollyhead · 22/05/2020 06:12

I think it’s a combination of the shut down aggressive style of some posters, the fact that internet sources of information on things like sleep, breast feeding etc are much better than they used to be AND lockdown means that there isn’t much to talk about on the more ‘benign friendly areas’ such as travel, style and beauty etc. I hope it bounces back a bit.

My mental health also improves when I stay away - I can feel upset or wound up for quite a while if someone posts something monumentally stupid, or unnecessarily judgemental. I’ve had some breaks and i generally feel much better after.

Nothing changes over on the other site- the same personal attacks happen there too.

Pertella · 22/05/2020 08:53

Problem is, there are “professional” trolls out there and some appear to have well developed trolling skills. Hard to spot.

Pointing out obvious trolls and scammers is considered worse than being the troll or scammer on here too 🤷‍♀️

Laaalaaaa · 22/05/2020 10:18

Maybe everybody’s glued to their windows watching their neighbours every move getting ready to ‘report, report report’ by logging with 101?

SunbathingDragon · 22/05/2020 10:19

Nice attempt at promoting a new forum, OP! 🙄 The thing is, if it was any good you wouldn’t need to be over here making up threads to try to get more traffic over there.

TazSyd · 22/05/2020 11:29

@SunbathingDragon

Damn, didn’t spot that Smile.

Bojohair · 22/05/2020 11:49

There are trolls everywhere, here, the new site and ironically on the troll spotting sub where they happily play.

Trolls are not exclusive to mumsnet and will get their kicks wherever they can.
