Sending my child back to nursery

Hi, i work in a garage as a receptionist/admin. My son has been off nursery since they closed and has been looked after by his dad while i've still been working.

He now has to return to work and i received a message from my sons nursery asking if i would be wanting to send him back as they may be opening in June, i said yes to this and have received a message back today saying that they've received more advice to accept the older children back first and then the younger children(son is two) unless you're a key worker, in which case a letter will be needed to prove etc.

I was just wondering if that sounded right to anyone else? I thought nursery's were supposed to be opening to everyone again and that key workers children were already allowed to go in so why are they saying it's just key workers still?

From reading the government website on key workers it does say about keeping road users going which i suppose my job does relate too and i can't really not go as i need the money, is there anyone on here that works in a nursery/school would you find my job acceptable to be sending my child back to nursery? sorry this is so long winded

The nursery is right. The advice is that nurseries can open but only where it is safe to do so. That will mean taking reduced numbers at first, and they will likely choose the older children as they require less intimate care than younger children, and can operate at a higher children to staff ratio in case of staff sickness, therefore minimising risk.

Whilst the government had advised that they can open, they're not obliged to open if the risk assessment means it cannot safely open. They can also choose which cohorts to open to.

I would say your job could possibly fall into the key worker category so I would enquire at work for the letter.

It's also to prepare the older children for the transfer in to school

Sounds similar to what we have been told. I have a 2 year old and doubt that we will get a place for June. It’s so hard, I can work from home but can’t continue to be as unproductive as I have been.

Yes it's difficult, i'll have no one else to have my daughter if she doesn't get a place so i'll be unable to workSad

Can you look for another nursery or a childminder? Things are up in the air so you may find a place easier than you think. I think you need to do your best to hang on to your job in these uncertain times!
