Lids for cream cartons

Sorry for the boring thread, but does anyone have a solution to the lack of lids on cream cartons these days? I only use if for my coffee so a carton can last me 4-5 days, but i dislike leaving it 'lidless' or just with the peel back cover on, as its likely to spill. You would think if they decided to stop providing them they'd have found some re-useable ones that they could sell. I have been re-using the last one that I managed to get hold of, but it's now split.
I've looked online but only seem to get the stretchy ones that come in a multi-buy set, and I only want one for my cream carton (I also suspect the cartons are not rigid enough to 'stretch' those type of lids over). First world problem I know, but it really bugs me !
Anyone any ideas?

Buy a reusable lidded container and pour your cream into it the day you open it. Will keep for as long as it would have in the original pot.

I use jam jars

I miss the plastic lids on porridge pots more - you're meant to stir, then cover and leave to stand. The bit of tinfoil never covers and where are you meant to balance your mucky spoon!

I know...I am very vexed about this...and I sliced my finger open on a Aldi cream tub foil lid putting it into my bag..had to use YARDS of the blue tissue for wiping down trolley to staunch the flow of blood.

I did have a spare...I think lidl are behind the times and still using them, but dh chucked it out when he was scavenging for bin duty, he likes to make it worth while and not leave a scrap of rubbish in the house.

The most annoying thing - boring problem alert - is M&S cream, where the normal cream has a plastic lid but organic doesn’t (I only buy organic, darling). I sometimes nick a lid off another pot.

Otherwise yes, a jam jar is quite good instead.

You can buy circular stretchy things to go over the tops of tins/bowls/whole grapefruit etc. I got a set of 5 on ebay for around £5. They are reusable and washable. Made from silicone.

Those stretchy things are brilliant for many things, tins, bowls, I evenbyse thdmvto wrap open bacon packets and awkwardly wrapped cheese.

I just save a few from my Onken yoghurt to put on my Lidl cottage cheese which is lidless these days. The good thing is most of the lids fit any pot.

Buy Longley Farm cream .I bought some of their Jersey single today as was making flans and it's got a plastic lid. Lovely cream and their cottage cheese is the best in the world

If it's a foil lid I sort of fold the tab back over the rim, that seems to hold it. Doesn't spill unless people are careless and knock it over.

EvilPea · 21/05/2020 17:51

Yes!!! I’m using some I clung onto. I’m very concerned they are going to end up in the recycling.

I know it’s about plastic, but you end up buying more as it goes off quicker.

Jamjar is a good idea though.

lifestooshort123 · 21/05/2020 18:05

... as is purloining a yogurt pot lid on your way round the supermarket...

Ifonlyiweretaller · 21/05/2020 23:19

Well I'm glad it's not only me 😉 thanks for responses. still think it's crazy though that they stop doing the cheapo lids but don't offer a practical option.

I wondered where all the lids had gone these last few weeks! I thought it was some lockdown/cheapo option and they'd be back soon.
