ADHD Assessment Recommendation North West

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a private child ADHD assessment done in the North West please? I want to be ready to get it booked as soon as lockdown is relaxed. Thanks in advance!

Please don't follow the advice in @angelinal25 post - they are recommending a controlled drug which should only be taken after assessment and examination by a professional who knows what they are doing. Have you asked for an assessment by your local adhd service? Have school raised their concerns?

Do you still need a recommendation?

@MadauntofA & @vinoandbrie thanks both. I’ve managed to find somewhere that will do a face to face assessment. I completely ignored the crazy suggestions that I drug my child with a controlled drug and no input from a doctor!! DC Dad has ADHD, so I could’ve given DC his drugs to see if it helped, but obviously that would’ve been an irresponsible ridiculous idea. I should’ve reported the first post to Mumsnet really, but I just ignored it.

That's good to hear. It sounds like you have experience of the condition with DH. Just be prepared that they are likely to need information from school therefore you may have to wait till September for the conclusion of the assessment. If they don't want info from school, then it isn't a full assessment.

I really hope the process runs smoothly for you and very good luck!

Yep, school have filled the forms in for them, they’ve been very supportive, as has the GP, but she said it’d be 2-3 year wait on the NHS.

@vinoandbrie Thank you, I’m a bit nervous to be honest. Do either of you have an opinion on how to explain the assessment to him? He was 6 last week so has limited understanding at his age and isn’t aware his Dad has ADHD. So far I’ve said we’re going to see a special doctor, to ask them if they can work out why he gets so angry and upset so often. Not sure what else to say!

I'd just tell him something along the lines of.., you know you are really good at X, but you find Y tricky. Lots of boys and girls find Y tricky and there is a great Dr who can find out how to help. They will want to ask me lots of questions about you, and will probably want to ask you a few questions about school etc.
If there is anything you don't want to talk about in front of him, write it down. "Spaghetti brain" is a good description which doesn't sound too scary/ bad.
