Minimalist home

I have recently in the last few years slowly turned my house into a nordic minimalist home. Prior, it was v. traditional and a lot of stuff going on, with no pallet or purpose.

I am now thiking about how bare my home looks. Everything is somewhat 'new' with clean lines, which makes me happy in the sense that the house looks and feels bigger. It also looks like it has a purpose, everything in there was chosen carefully.

I'm now looking at pics of other people's homes who did not redo their home and follow this trend, and I feel nostalgic.

What do you feel about minimalist Scandinavian homes? Versus traditional look?

I'm unwilling to buy anymore things, just curious as to your thoughts.

I personally lm not a fan of the scandi minimalist look but it is a lovely aesthetic . I don't like clutter & like everything to have a place but I do like colour & some knick knacks. I'm not a scandi person, the reality is my white dress would have stains on it & I would stub my toe whilst wafting about.

I love minimalist. Our lounge I suppose has next to nothing in it. Settee and chairs, TV and stand and a small circular table and that's it really, no ornaments or anything like that. We both like it that way and it takes not long to dust.

It's light and airy, but I did wonder if it was clinical. Our neighbour said it was "restful", so I guess it's ok.

Dining room is much the same. Only table and chairs and a cabinet with fruit bowl. Again light and airy and a nice place to WFH.

I'm fond of the minimalist look, but I do like a little colour. My place is done in a Hamptons theme - with the minimal look but with lots of blue and white instead of the complete white colour scheme. The only place which has any "bits and pieces" is on my bookcases which have a few carefully-chosen blue / white / gold pieces. The whole place makes me happy.

I love Scandi minimalist with a hint of traditionalism and a pop of colour

It can all work together in a minimal way

I’m not a fan of minimalism, too cold and clinical for me. But if you like it, that’s all that matters.

I think I would love it, but we are all to messy to make it work. And a bit hoardery. I'd like your home and be jealous!

I can do minimalism in a warm climate but not in the U.K. In England I need cushions and rugs and throw blankets in warm colours.

Fill the space with plants OP. They serve a very good purpose.

I’m not a fan of the look myself. A Swedish friend moved back to Stockholm not long ago and emailed me details of all the flats she was viewing. Almost without exception they were minimalist white, black and grey all over, no colour anywhere, except maybe an occasional plant, and looked so cold and bleakly fridge-like. Just one had a little colour on one wall, and in a rug.

I’m glad to say that she’s made the flat she eventually bought lovely and warm and inviting, though it was a fridge-lookalike to start with.
