Right, this is giving me a headache cos I'm absolutely shit at maths. I want to switch my dogs food because she's not on a very good one, she smells and her coat feels awful. So I'm hoping switching her to raw will improve this. I've written out her current food cost and daily amount she eats, and the new food cost and daily amount. Can somebody please, please work out a weekly cost of her current food please, so I can see the price difference? I'm struggling so bad with this 😣

Here is all the info

CURRENT food
24 pack of tins £15
400g per tin
100g per day (1 tin = 4 days)

2kg bag of dry food £4
25g per day

NEW food
14 pouches for £11 or 80p each
454g per pouch
125g per day
£1.60 per week

I really hope this makes sense!

You only feed your dog 125g of food a day? Is it tiny? #missesthepoint.

BertieBotts · 20/05/2020 23:17

It's about £1.09/1.10 a week on tins depending whether you round to the nearest penny or up.

Then £3.50 a week on dry food.

So you're saving quite a lot as currently you're spending nearly a fiver a week.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/05/2020 23:21

Your current food-
Tins.
Each tin costs £0.63
Each portion within the tin costs £0.16
Tins for seven days = £1.12

Dry.
Dry food lasts 80 days.
At £4 per bag, one days kibble is £0.05
Kibble for seven days = £0.35

Total current food costs for one week = £1.47

I'm going to pause before I calculate new foods as that seems a shockingly low quantity. I'm hopeful you have updated!

Then £3.50 a week on dry food

This is wrong, surely? She pays £4.00 for a 2kg bag (2000g). She serves up 25g per day, so 175g over the week. That leaves a significant amount in the bag.

MrsRogerLima · 20/05/2020 23:23

Do 15/24= cost per tin then / by 4. = A
2000/25 = amount of dry food portions per 2kg bag
£4/amount of portions = cost per portion of dry food (B)

A+B= total cost per feed. X this by 7 to get your cost per week.

howcomes · 20/05/2020 23:23

Hi
It looks like you currently spend 20pence per day (each can costs just over 62p and a can lasts 4 days, the dry food is 2000g for 4 quid so each day 25g is 5p worth).

MrsT1405 · 20/05/2020 23:24

I cant believe you feed such tiny amounts! What sort of bog is it?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/05/2020 23:24

I got 35p a week on the dry food, the 2kg bag will last for 80 days and costs £4. Then the wet food is £15 for 96 portions, so about 15p a day, £1.09 a week.

So £1.44 per week on the current food

And yes, she must be tiny!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/05/2020 23:26

Thank you @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Smile

She's only a 5kg dog (well, supposed to be, she's actually a bit fat) so yes, the quantity she is fed is correct. It does look and sound a tiny amount though!

She's a fairly petite Border Terrier. Smaller than average!

What food are you using? I've found this site helpful.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/05/2020 23:32

@donquixotedelamancha She's on Winalot tins and Harringtons dry food. The Harringtons isn't so bad but the Winalot isn't great.

Very cute dog! Hope the new food suits her better.

It’s definitely £1.44 not £1.47 btw, I think Bernadette rounded up too early WinkGrin

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/05/2020 23:34

@SpuriouserAndSpuriouser I'll take your word for it Grin All I see are numbers and not one bit of it makes sense to me apart from the final total amount Grin

Blush Yes of course I missed a zero in my calculations! I was thinking 25g was 1/8 of 2kg, not 1/80.

Twooter · 23/05/2020 09:55

Make sure you look into the public health aspects of raw feeding. You have to be very strict on hygiene and picking up faeces ASAP.
