Have all your DC hit the wall too?

Having had a flick through here and talking to the mums of ds's classmates it seems that all the kids have decided enough is enough this week.
I don't know of anyone who is sailing through this week.
DS who has a lot of work to do and is generally sailing through it with only a token moan here and there has most definitely put his little foot down. We struggled through Monday but no work has been done and he is walking round with a face like thunder. We've been outside had a bounce and played bat and ball for a bit but nothing is cheering him up.

Any idea how we can press the reset button and get him back to his usual happy self?

@CountFosco

She has done a bit of Zoom with Beavers. Sometimes this is a bit of a poison chalice, as she is upset afterwards as she misses them all.
She has had a few video chats with friends but they all have siblings so she sees them all- very small rural school so they all know each other-,and knows that they are together afterwards, so again we have sadness afterwards.
She also has chats with her grown up siblings. This is her favourite thing and well done to them all, they've made a rota to make sure she gets plenty of calls.
She is only 7 so misses very much the playing.

@HouseOfSticks
It's sad isn't it?? Especially when they are little and such social little creatures.

Oh god yes! This week is pretty much a write off at this point.
I hadn't even realised that it was half term next week, it explains a lot!

Definitely here. DH pointed out the half term thing earlier so we'd all be saying we were ready for a break by this point anyway but everything is magnified.

Comefromaway · 20/05/2020 23:02

Dh is a teacher and he’s definitely hit the wall. He can’t wait until half term.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 20/05/2020 23:24

Glad I found this. DD (yr1) has been amazing up until this week and then has just slammed into the wall.

Have taken today "off" as it was amazing weather and I think she just really needed the break. We've done every bit of work set up to now so I'm going to see if I can get her to do a couple more bits this week but I'm not going to push her.

AuditAngel · 21/05/2020 08:45

Mine have. I have the same order and ages as Avoca DS is in year 11 so should be on GCSE’s, school have now set pre-A level work, but he’s going on to 6th form college so expecting battles from him.

DD1 is happy and gets on with it, except after half term school are indicating they need to stick to the new time table, so no more starting early at 7.30 and finishing by 11.30

DD2 has pleaded unwell this week (yesterday I touched her tummy and she flinched) so yesterday I cancelled school on the condition she did reading not iPad. She asked if Ripley’s Believe or not was suitable reading? She also did her after school Spanish lesson on Zoom.

I will encourage a small amount of work today and tomorrow.

I think it has been worse here as we were supposed to spend half term with their new cousins in Cornwall for their baptism, which is obviously deferred.

Charles11 · 21/05/2020 09:16

One of my dc hit it last week. She did no work last week at all. I did gently encourage her but didn’t push it and let her get on with pottering and watching tv.
She seems to be ok this week and getting on with lots of stuff.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 21/05/2020 10:19

DS2 has been hit hard and made really miserable by the news that schools in our area are not now likely to reopen to him on June 1st. He does his school work every day. But he's lonely and sad and is now really down.

DDiva · 21/05/2020 10:47

My DD (7) was really low last weekend. I think she got all excited hearing news etc about schools opening, then realised it wasn't her year. We have however this week arranged with her 2 best friends to do their school work at the same time on skype everyday and its working really well so far.

formerbabe · 21/05/2020 11:27

My dd(9) has completely refused to do anything today and burst into tears saying she wants to go back to school and see her friends Sad. I'm not going to force her to do work. I'm just trying to think of something we can do to cheer her up...but can't go anywhere really and can't see anyone.

Herpesfreesince03 · 21/05/2020 11:28

We hit the wall about a week and a half ago. It was a nightmare and I felt terrible. Luckily we’ve got back on it this week

listsandbudgets · 21/05/2020 11:34

We've hit a wall. I have a feeling the geography and history the school have optimistically set DS(7) for this afternoon may not be happening.

DD on the other hand is doing well but she's in year 9 and has live lessons which I think helps

spiderlight · 21/05/2020 11:58

Mine was OK at the start of the week but took SIX HOURS (most of which was spent faffing and flopping around and traipsing up and down the stairs for drinks and snacks and to fuss the dog and claim the wi-fi wasn't working) to complete a 50-minute online science lesson yesterday. English today is not going much better!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 21/05/2020 12:05

Oh I'm so glad it's not just us! Getting started on Monday felt ten times as hard as usual. I'm feeling the sudden jump in temperature quite badly and haven't had the puff to push harder. We've managed some online tasks and some reading, but that's it.
Half term next week.
