Anyone else enjoying watching them?

This morning my apple tree looked like the baby room of a day nursery with plump dishevelled chicks perched awkwardly on twigs, Some are more balanced than others and can do a bit of stretching and wing exercises, but others are slightly wobbly and use up a lot of energy just hanging on. I love the way they slump down in between parental visits, then perk up and get demanding as soon as they spot the parents. A bit like a toddler who has been perfectly happy in nursery all day but bursts into tears as soon as mum comes at home time.

It was starlings and sparrows today, though I have seen blue tits earlier in the week , and the goldfinch seem to have increased in number but I think the parents just show them the feeders and tell them to get on with it. Tough love.

Sadly no blackbirds this year, the first time for about ten years, consecutive pairs always used to nest in the same place,in a honeysuckle bush, but this year nothing. Come to think of it I haven't heard them for a while either, sad if that genetic line has moved on or ended.

We have a nest of blue tits about to fly, located under the eaves. And a pair of Goldfinch in the garden somewhere.

If you want to see something magical there is a live web cam on a Petegrine Falcons nest at Winchester cathedral. 5 chicks I'm the nest, will be fledged in a couple of weeks.
Go to the Cathedral website and follow the link.
Wonderful watching the parents feeding them.
Also a live feed on another nest at Salisbury cathedral with 4 chicks.

Found this little chap in my garden this morning. Luckily he's now out of the reach of the cats as they leave this particular bush alone

Thanks Kontikki, will take a look. 5 chicks is an amazing number for peregrines, the local pigeons must be quaking!

Is it a Robin exercise? They are very dim I find, hop about at ground level instead of keeping up out of reach.
