Anyone just collapsed for no reason?

Bottomplasters · 20/05/2020 11:17

I collapsed at work yesterday, I felt a bit tired and heavy previous to this despite having a good nights sleep. Then it happened again in the night. The two tunes I went down with such a clatter, I have massive bumps in my head and headache.

My gp is going to get me an appointment in 2 days. I don't think this is normal but I'm not really concerned.

Just wondering when dizziness may go and headache!! Anyone else just collapsed and what was it?

Any other symptoms? Shakiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea? Is it worse when you stand up? It could be low blood pressure or POTS especially if you’re young, female and thinish.
We’ve just had the first few properly warm days of the year and these sorts of conditions are often worse when it’s hot. Until you see the doctor, I would try and drink plenty of water and maybe try eating something salty, like crisps, to see if it helps. It won’t do any harm and salt often makes people with these kinds of issues feel better.

I used to have “normal fainting fits” all through my teenage years and early 20’s with a doctor who couldn’t be arsed to look into it at all. Switched doctors and was diagnosed with anemia and low blood pressure. See a doctor (that gives a shit!)

Are you still dizzy when lying down and doing nothing? Did you lose consciousness or just fall over?

Just dizziness on standing and lying down. Feel a bit sick.

I'm not thinish! I'm fat hence why I went down with such a thud

It hasn't happened to me though I have felt close to it but it did happen to my husband twice when he was still quite young. I also knew other people, girls, who would pass out occasionally.

We can't always tell why (neither can doctors!), low blood sugar, low blood pressure if we get up too quickly, too much heat.....if it's a one off, don't worry. Just be a bit gentle and cautious with movements, none too sudden. If it happens again seek medical advice but at the moment just put it down to experience.

Yep. Undiagnosed UTI.

lubeybooby · 20/05/2020 12:27

If you've bumped your head and have headache and nausea you need to be seen much much more urgently than 2 days time

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 20/05/2020 12:57

Vestibular issues here- first couple of times had no idea what had happened

maresydoats · 20/05/2020 13:02

Yep, happens now and then like standing by the kitchen sink having got up off my arse to get a glass of water. Can feel legs going and then down I go.
I've got Menieres though, and doc is putting it down to that. Very weird.

Check your heart rate. Neighbour kept collapsing and needed a pacemaker.

Thecatisboss · 20/05/2020 13:06

I collapsed last year which was put down to exhaustion following a half marathon and then not eating properly (had to take cat to emergency vet). Then collapsed again in March and I'm now being investigated for a heart problem. It does need investigating properly.

GeronimoDiego · 20/05/2020 13:26

Has happened to me - I have low blood pressure so standing up to quick can do it. All the blood rushes to legs, leaves brain, I end up on the floor unable to stand.

autumngold6 · 20/05/2020 13:26

Could it be low oxygen levels, have you got access to a pulse oximeter? I read about a GP and his family whose only symptom of the virus was low oxygen levels. He put it down to a faulty oximeter at first but second device showed the same. They felt tired and his legs felt heavy when he tried to run.

Bottomplasters · 20/05/2020 13:49

I'm so tired, I've slept for hours and hours. When did you go back in work? I really don't want to go back before I've seen the dr

You couldn't be pregnant could you?

howow · 20/05/2020 15:13

I had that once about 6 months ago. Leading up to it I had frequent dizzy spells randomly throughout the day but thought nothing of it as it was never that bad that I couldn't go about daily activities.

Then once after a fairly stressful cycle ride to an appointment that I was late for, I started to feel really nauseous, get black spots in front of my vision, everything went a bit black and white looking and then I fainted.

Doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me except for mildly low blood pressure and iron (ferritin) blood levels on the lower end of normal. They couldn't do anything about the low blood pressure but prescribed iron tablets. I did take them for a few weeks, iron went up marginally and I've not had anything like that since (hard to tell as we've been in lockdown since I recovered so not sure if being at home working means I'm less tired than commuting etc. though

howow · 20/05/2020 15:15

Oh I also had an ECG done as a tick box exercise and it turned out fine too.

CovidicusRex · 20/05/2020 15:16

Feeling sick and dizzy is normal before fainting (I have a lot of experience in this). So are ringing ears, hearing loss, large patches of darkness in vision and complete vision loss.

If you’re overweight I would suggest testing for diabetes. Are you particularly thirsty at the moment by any chance?

Another possibility will the low iron (this would account for the sleepiness). Other symptoms of low iron include getting out of breath really easily and dark circles under your eyes. If your iron levels are low it’s worth also checking out your thyroid. Low iron coupled with heat was my trigger for fainting.

I have also spontaneously collapsed. As in I felt completely fine one second, blacked out for one second, found myself in a bush the next second. Don’t know why it happened but it was quite memorable it that it wasn’t like normal fainting.

ToriaPumpkin · 20/05/2020 16:21

I have spells of it, usually when I was pregnant, though funnily enough I came close today at work. Usually it's because I get too hot or my blood sugar crashes (not diabetic) and I also have fairly low blood pressure which, combined with the fact I'm overweight, leaves me a bit off kilter sometimes.

I'm on Vit D and Folic Acid as my energy levels were so bad a few months ago and I don't get as dizzy recently, but it does come and go if I skip a meal or let myself get too hot and bothered.

Bottomplasters · 21/05/2020 10:56

Seen the dr they think it's vertigo. I feel so tired and this is 2 days after. I've never slept so much or eaten so little!

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 21/05/2020 11:05

A virus may have caused the vertigo and that's why you feel v tired and have a headache. I had serious balance problems and at first they thought it was a virus that started it. Then they thought it might have been vestibular migraines - thought they usually present without the headache.
Hope you're better sooon- it's horrible
