Can't stop hiccuping - anyone round to distract me with how their day was?

Yes I've tried water/holding breath

I bloody hate hiccups.
I've spent the day in my Jammies watching the lion king with dd for the 5th time since Saturday. Had takeaway pizza for dinner along with a couple of glasses of wine.

That sounds lovely which pizza did you get?

Was the 5th lion king better than the 4th??

This really works OP - once cured my hiccups that'd dragged on for 3-4 hours!

Press your right thumb as hard as you can into the cenre of your left palm, and hold it there for a minute.

A minute...here we go...

If you still have them, then try this, I swear by it.

Take a teaspoon of sugar and pour it onto the middle of your tongue. Then take quite a large glass of water and swallow it with the sugar, until the glass is empty.

I don't know what kind of magic it is but my hiccups never come back after doing this.

HairyPotter · 20/05/2020 15:03

My ‘cure’ has never failed me every! Put your little fingers right in your ears and take several big swallows of water. It’s actually magic Grin

@Leicester5

Did the thumb trick work?

Leicester5 · 20/05/2020 21:59

Actually yes the thumb trick did!

That’s interesting. DD2 (13) gets the hiccups ALL the time. DH wants me to take her to the doctors. She has been sent out of class for making a noise as a result of this.

missy111 · 21/05/2020 08:57

Gaviscon..or other antacid!

Whilst in hospital after surgery I developed hiccups which wouldn't go. A very new junior doctor came round and he told the nurses to give me gaviscon, as hiccups can be caused by acid..the nurses and I all pulled faces, but humoured him...sure enough it worked..and has worked many times since!

FurrySlipperBoots · 21/05/2020 13:45

I would rather have hiccups than drink Gaviscon! Proper foul stuff!

So glad the thumb trick worked!
