Does this look normal?

I’m using a Fitbit to lose weight (morbidly obese) . I’ve lost about 2 and a half stone so far which pushes me into being a BMI of about 42 . However I’m worried about my HR on the Fitbit .

Typically my resting pulse seems to be about 72, it rises to about 120-140 when walking briskly . I’m very anxious when I leave the house that I’m going to collapse (health anxiety) so I suppose my lack of fitness and anxiety are probably working together to push it up . I seem to spend half the day with Fitbit saying I’m in fat burning mode .

However I’m noticing at night I’m waking up half the bloody night and my HR seems to be all over the place . I’m due a period just now - and I was awful hot last night and had a lot of nightmares - can that cause issues ? My worry is that sleep aponea’s been suggested before - and one of my relatives has a condition that could be genetic (cardiomyopathy) . Has an ICD etc . His doctors aren’t concerned about family though as they can’t find a specific gene - they screened me two years ago and said fine, my mum gets screened every 2-5 years.

Have attached a photo of last night’s sleep analysis thingmy - does it look normal?

Thanks Flowers

That's great! HR rises as you burn calories. Don't worry to much.. my HR can go up to 150/160 when I am in 'peak' ie when dancing. Disclaimer though I am not medically qualified.

Attached the wrong photo, sorry !

Thank you monkey that puts my mind at rest ! I’m scared to keep exercising when it says ‘cardio’ etc as I’m worried that means it’s too much for me Blush

Sorry didn't read the bit about night time HR... I would imagine if you move in your sleep your HR would go up, again I'm not medical though

Good for you losing the weight-I've been trying to do the same😊

StrawberryPi · 18/05/2020 10:20

Your body is very good at telling you when you're overdoing it! Exercising to any heart rate is safe so long as you haven't been advised to limit it by a doctor and don't feel faint, giddy, etc. I used to do a high performance sport and we would regularly train to heart rates of 180-200 for 30mins or more!

roff · 18/05/2020 10:25

Op to help you compare - I have a resting heart rate of 52 and this is my sleep for last night. Overnight my heart rate moves between about 44-70. My heart rate also goes up to about 125 when walking briskly, and 180 when running.

As a rule your safe maximum heart rate during exercise is 220 - your age. I'm 42 so mine is 178bpm.

roobine · 18/05/2020 10:42

Looks totally normal to me... I'm slightly overweight (bmi about 27) but pre baby was always in a healthy bmi range and my sleep analysis hasn't changed (apart from the baby wakes ups!)
This is typical for my nights

Also, this is a standard day for my heart rate when I've done no vigorous exercise but have been for a walk

Thank you, reassuring ! I’ve kept a wee eye on it today and it’s been fairly normal . The only totally bewildering thing is it shows my HR as being as high as 200 overnight last night, but I can’t even remember if I wore the damn thing last night , I think I woke up and realised it was off, so maybe that’s an issue with it . Not sure . I’m hoping it’s not a genuine reflection of what’s happening at night ! I’ve definitely done a bit more exercise today so that probably knocks it off too .

It actually did the same on Sunday night too and both nights has said it couldn’t get an accurate HR reading, so I’m wondering if both nights I just didn’t wear it . I’m sure I woke up with it snapped off this morning !

Have you checked you don’t have sleep apnea? My dp had similar before he was diagnosed with sleep apnea

backstairslavy · 19/05/2020 22:50

Was on a waiting list - put on the list in October last year and told it was about 4 years long ... the fast HR this morning was when I woke up . I’m convinced I wasn’t even wearing it at that time ... I do think I have sleep aponea though - no idea if the NHS would do anything about it just now though

I think it’s worth calling the doctors about sleep apnea- it actually could be an ideal time.most doctors would do telephone consultation and then refer you to a sleep clinic, the referral could take a few months anyhow so best to get ball rolling.
My dp has it along with some other health issues and fitful sleep/getting up a lot in night was an issue.
