Anyone been really quite unfit and managed to turn things around?

I've had a long illness and coming out the other side now. I've become so unfit and overweight and want to get back to my old self. I can't run anymore because of damage to my knees and I still get very tired.

I'm getting to grips with my diet using the Lose It app which I prefer to MFP and have a bike on a turbo which I'm using every day for a little while (predominantly to strengthen my knee) and walking every day too.

I'm trying but I'd love to hear some success stories for motivation and most of all some tips would be great!

I'm about 3 and a half stone overweight and have always been really unfit. I could never run, hate walking and dont do any sports.
I started walking a couple of weeks ago. I do about 5k pushing the buggy with lots of hills. At first I really really struggled, had to keep stopping for rests and drinks and nearly fell down once I got in the door at home.
Today, i did the same walk and it felt easier. I'm walking faster and stopping less, and didn't have the awful feeling of being pushed to far when I got home. Its been a huge difference for me in a short space of time. I'm kicking myself that I didn't start doing it sooner.

Running isn't bad for your knees.

I started off with a pledge to walk every day and within 3 months could run 5km non stop, progressing up to running a half marathon after 8 months.

Morbidly obese to healthy BMI was also part of my journey.

Three years ago I was overweight and not particularly fit, I got diagnosed with diabetes and decided to lose weight. Over 8 months I lost 3 stone using MFP and did c25k and now have done 3 half marathons, I've also reversed the diabetes.

@FATEdestiny no I know, that's not what caused my knee injury but I can't run because my knee is already injured iykwim? The bike turbo was recommended by my physio to strengthen but I need to do something else now in the meantime really.

Hi megaton I'm 53 and was always trim but completely unfit and no real flexibility or muscle strength so about 3 years ago I gained about 2 stone and decided for mental health reasons I needed to exercise so I went swimming, which was great as it was an hour away from my thoughts...(I do 40 lengths and the actual swimming and counting to 40 takes up all my concentration) I was tricked into attending a yoga glass (I was adamant I was too weak) and yes it's hard but I love it and I can totally feel the difference, my yoga instructor has people with artificial knees, hips and she Taylor's her exercises according. Now we're in lockdown I bought a treadmill and I'm doing the couch to 5k, obv I appreciate you can't run with your knee but any exercise is amazing, I just wish that I had started much sooner as it has transformed my life. Also I'm doing the 16/8 fasting as try as I might I can't consistently maintain weight loss with WW or SW. Self congratulations is also the way forward as every little step is fantastic.
