Ants! How to get rid of them?

Lived in our 140 year old house for three years. Summer 2019 ants appear in the living room and bedroom at the front of the house. We filled the holes and put down powder and sprayed and they went. This year they are back again, same rooms. Must have found a new route.
Has any got rid of ants once and for all? Did you call someone in? Was it expensive?

Watching with interest. We're having a nightmare with them in our living room. I think there's probably a huge nest under our front garden and the floor

Just mentioned the age of the house as it’s full of ways for them to get in!

We get some in the house at around the same time every year - it isn’t a huge amount though to be fair. We put some peppermint oil diluted with water in a spray bottle, and spray all round the outside of the house and inside where they are spotted. It really seems to deter them and is so much more kid friendly than having ant powder around. It also smells lovely!
One thing to consider though is if it may mark carpets - we have laminate down so not had that issue. It might be worth a shot though?

Look up - AntStop! Bait station.
You can find it on amazon etc, brilliant stuff I’ve found.

I got some ant bait stations from amazon . Was amazed at how many ants appeared at the bait station when I first put it down . By the next day we didn’t see any ants and it’s been over a week now and haven’t seen any since .

I find they reappear every year too.

Boiling water onto source area.
Ant powder / gel / spray etc.
Mastic over areas where they come in.
And repeat.
They go, eventually.

We had them in the conservatory and then couple started appearing in the kitchen- I hate ants with a passion. Tried boiling water, bleach on nests, powder and bait stations over last few weeks but last weekend went into garden and they were all over the back exterior wall 🤢 anyway called someone out last week it was £180 inc vat they’ve sprayed outside walls and put some bait killer in conservatory.
We’ve not had anymore inside since last Sunday they are still appearing on the patio outside but as long as not in the house I’m happy.
The company I found will come out again free of charge to treat if first course didn’t work so I’d recommend finding one like that.

Get pest control in. We had them crawling out of the skirting boards and up the walls a couple of years ago. There were millions of them. Bait stations and ant powder did fuck all. The ant man came and sprayed this stuff all over, which we had to leave for a week before cleaning, wiping and hoovering, and killed them all. Only now, 3 or 4 years later, are we starting to get them in the house again despite there being a few nests in the garden.

Yes agree with above our last house we had issues until pest control came out treated and it lasted at least a year 18 months before we had any issues.
Should have done same again probably wasted £40 on powders and Bait stations before I called that company last week. They are licences to use products not available on market.

Same here and that's also what he told us: the stuff on the market just isn't strong enough for a big infestation. He also said that after the treatment to kill any individual ants that you see because they'll be foragers looking for a food source. Don't put food waste in the inside bin, Hoover up crumbs asap and spray any surfaces after you've prepped or eaten food on them.

Talc will deter them. Sprinkle it around the areas where they get in.
